The evolution of clean technology and renewable energy solutions has become a critical issue for commercial and industrial organizations (C&I) given emerging financial opportunities, sustainability goals, and the desire for integrated energy strategies. Schneider Electric Sustainability, Renewable Energy, Cleantech and Smartgrid Services, part of Schneider's Energy & Sustainability Services (ESS), provides support and leadership to some of the world's best known C&I organizations on diversifying their portfolios to include renewable energy and emerging energy technologies.

Position Summary:

The Client Development Manager will focus on bringing in new commercial & industrial clients to the Cleantech division, with a particular emphasis on helping clients strategically procure renewable energy. This effort will involve identifying, pursuing, qualifying, and closing potential clients headquartered throughout North America with a national and possible global presence. It requires the ability to sell complex and high-value services at the highest level of the world's largest corporations. It is preferred that qualified candidates would be based and work from our Cleantech office located in Boulder, CO. Candidates may be considered located in other Schneider ESS offices such as Louisville, KY, or work from a virtual home office anywhere.

  • Identify and develop strategic advisory opportunities with new and existing Schneider clients
  • Participate in a dynamic, competitive and growing global Cleantech market
  • Hunt for new business development opportunities, with a proven ability to generate and follow up on leads by making contact with prospects and creating interest in Schneider's Cleantech offerings
  • Develop and leverage deep subject-matter expertise, particularly in strategic renewable energy contract structures, to craft a solution to meet a unique client lead, as a trusted advisor
  • Communicate and interact with business decision makers at all levels to identify needs and requirements as well as market opportunities
  • Lead and move prospects through the sales cycle
  • Negotiate and close sales that vary in contract length and fee range
  • Close an agreed upon number of sales and revenue per year
  • Maintain prospect (CRM) database information
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Essential skills and qualifications:


  • Minimum of 5-years' experience in the renewable energy industry, with extensive experience selling to industrial and/or commercial clients; experience and knowledge from working within the energy industry is a must with the renewable energy industry strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent work experience
  • Proven track record of being successful in all elements of a consultative sales role, or relevant experience as a corporate renewable energy buyer with sales experience
  • Lead generation experience, and excellent opportunity identification and qualification skills
  • Persistence in follow up of leads and movement of prospects through the sales cycle, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Interfacing and presenting to and selling to all management levels at Fortune 500 companies, up to the C-Suite
  • Negotiating contractual agreements with prospects
  • Prior experience working with complex and lengthy sales cycles
  • Strong closing ability and track record, with experience closing $100,000 deals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent sales methodology and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in a Microsoft Office environment (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Some travel required to support sales activity (approximately 20-50%).
