Job Summary

The Renewables Support Technician Sr provides subject matter expertise in the design, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and problem resolution for renewables technologies within Luminant. Provides technical analysis and market driven options for issues throughout the entire asset life cycle. The technician receives minimal guidance from P&C Supervision and Renewables Engineering. This position works closely with Luminant Engineering, Vistra Technology, Vistra Development, Luminant Operations, and third-party experts and suppliers to provide optimum solutions. The technician supports short and long range budget planning and execution. The technician communicates effectively with all levels within the Vistra/Luminant organization and with external resources and contacts.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

Renewables Support Technician key accountabilities include:

•Troubleshoot RTU/SCADA equipment and software to diagnose/repair system malfunctions•Perform troubleshooting and repair of solar and BESS equipment including inverters, combiners, transformers, breakers, HVAC, fire protection•Perform and support BESS local control integration with remote dispatch operations•Support and perform installation and configuration of servers, networks, data points of RTU/SCADA equipment.•Provide continuous maintenance and upgrades to RTU/SCADA systems•Support Generation Security group with network design and controls interface, access management, firewall set up, and other RTU/SCADA security needs.•Provide data communication quality maintenance for remote monitoring•Perform effective PLC circuit troubleshooting•Demonstrate understanding of different communication methods and media (RS-232, RS-485, ethernet, network cabling, media converters)•Demonstrate understanding of different communication protocols (Modbus, DNP, etc.)•Demonstrate understanding of communication processors•License and support document organization and maintenance.•BESS local control integration with remote dispatch operations

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:

•6 years relevant renewables or related industrial experience (power generation operations, maintenance, technical support)•High School Diploma/GED equivalent required. Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills  •Occasional long, irregular hours. May often require the employee to work in excess of 12 hours per day and in excess of seven (7) consecutive days. •This position requires frequent travel (up to 90%) and overnight stay.
