Johnson Controls is looking for an experienced Sr Engineering Manager with a deep background in computer science, service-oriented architecture, and shipping PaaS software products. As Engineering Manager for OpenBlue Twin, you will collaborate with customer success, solution architecture, product management, and DevOps teams to deliver the best solutions with efficient use of resources and technologies. You will also assess risks, anticipate bottlenecks, make trade-offs, balance business needs versus technical constraints and inspire your team to deliver a leading-edge platform.

You possess a deep understanding of solution design and implementation details and will successfully represent the technical team to senior leadership, customers, and partners. Your technical expertise and operational excellence will influence the team’s decisions and drive secure and robust solutions. You are obsessed with driving continuous process improvements to optimize delivery while inspiring your team and helping make this a great place to work.

Responsibilities


  • Drive implementation and delivery of JCI OpenBlue Twin.

  • Lead agile engineering teams to coordinate, prioritize and deliver compelling platform capabilities.

  • Understand service inter-dependencies and lead cross-functional teams towards technical solutions for multi-tiered systems

  • Clarify, prioritize, and drive project commitments as well as establish and maintain clear chains of accountability

  • Understand/ discover true requirements, underlying feature requests and recommend alternative technical and business approaches

  • Articulate program goals, desired outcomes, risks/issues and mitigation plans clearly

  • Mentor employees and build effective teams

  • Consume and communicate complex processes into tangible and actionable items

  • Position may require travel to customer and non-customer sites (20%)

What we look for

Required


  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science

  • 6 years of experience as leading cross-functional teams to deliver complex software projects

  • 5 years of experience as a software developer

  • 5 years of experience with project delivery for large, cross functional projects involving partner teams inside and outside your organization

  • 3 years of experience developing PaaS solutions

  • 2 years of agile methodologies experience

Preferred


  • Handle multiple priorities in an energizing and fast-paced environment 

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for the platform

  • Deep understanding of the SDLC and consistent record of achieving objectives on schedule, on budget and meeting quality criteria

  • Understand current technology trends and relevancy
