We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Palliative Care specialty of Atrius Health/Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. This position is full -time temporarily remote until the public health emergency declaration is over, this position will be based out of our Kenmore site.
SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Associate Chief, Palliative Care, Department Chief, Nurse Leader or designee, this registered professional nurse provides practice support to a Palliative Care clinical team, recognizing the patient as the central focus, providing age appropriate nursing care to adults with chronic disease and/or limiting illness. This individual plays a key role in supporting the clinical care for patients referred for palliative care consultation. The role includes working with the interdisciplinary palliative care consult team of physicians, advanced practice nurses, medical learners, chaplains, and social workers to deliver excellent patient and family care. This position supports the team in achieving clinical standards within the Atrius outpatient setting, coordinates resources particularly with outside hospital based palliative care programs, and provides palliative nursing care.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Graduate of a State-approved school of nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Possess a current license to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty. Certification in palliative care, oncology, pain management; integrative therapies such as Healing Touch.
EXPERIENCE
Strongly prefer minimum of 2 years of RN experience. Experience with an electronic medical records system required, EPIC experience preferred. Work experience with patients suffering from chronic illness or life limiting disease in the outpatient, nursing home, hospital or hospice settings is desired. Familiarity and comfort with advance care planning and serious illness conversations a plus. 5 years' experience in working in a related clinical area (oncology, geriatrics, ICU, neuro), knowledge of palliative care, or palliative/hospice experience is preferred but not required.
SKILLS
Must exhibit strong critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal and patient interviewing skills. Highly motivated and self-directed. Possesses ability to interpret clinical information, assess the implication of treatment and develop and implement a plan of care. Demonstrates ability to prioritize, multitask, and work in a rapidly changing environment with multiple demands. Is up to date with current standard of nursing care in Specialty. Demonstrates excellence in practice, documentation and cost effective care utilization. Maintains high patient satisfaction. Possesses ability to work effectively as part of a team. Fluent in basic computer skills.
