Summary
The Advance Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant functions collaboratively with physicians in the Hematology/Oncology Program. The Advance Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant autonomously performs patient assessments, diagnosis and implements an appropriate plan of care as defined by approved protocols. The Advance Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant prescribes a variety of treatment modalities to meet patient care needs in the defined patient population up to and including hospital admissions/discharges, clinic visits and prescriptive authority. The Advance Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistantdelivers competent and skilled care to patients and families according to their identified needs. Care is based on the nursing process and the medical plan of treatment. The Advance Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will deliver care with a team orientation, an emphasis on good customer relations, sound clinical judgment and appropriate decision-making abilities that take into consideration evidenced based practice.
Education & Experience
Master's degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing and/or pediatric hematology and oncologyexperience strongly preferred OR Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies, Minimum 1 year of experience in pediatric and/or pediatric hematology/oncology strongly preferred.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses: Current Texas professional registered nurse license, current Texas professional advance practice registered nurse license andcertified as a PNP or FNP.
Physician Assistants: Current Texas professional physician assistant license andcertified as a PA-C.
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
