Job Description



Fire Protection Engineer

The mission of the Site Facilities Engineering unit at the Kesselring Site is to provide timely, high quality, integrated, customer service-based engineering solutions for all non-reactor plant prototype facilities, and to support the operations, maintenance, and capital improvement needs while embracing regulatory compliance. The Kesselring Site is a government reservation of approximately 4000 acres with a developed area of nearly 60 acres. Our facilities support the training of naval personnel, the testing of new reactor plant technologies and the associated business support functions.

Site Facilities Engineering supports all existing building systems including building envelope (roofs, siding, doors and windows) and structures, HVAC and plumbing systems, fire protection systems, lighting as well as general site works such as roads and bridges. The successful candidate will assist project execution teams in the development of facility modifications and construction projects as the fire protection engineering lead to ensure compliance to code. The individual will coordinate design review and construction inspection with the fire code official and cognizant system engineers within their unit. In addition, the successful candidate may also perform fire hazard analysis and provide fire and life safety code evaluations to support site operations.







Required Skills



Intermediate:


  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or

  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience

Advanced:


  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or

  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience







Preferred Skills



Experience with the design and maintenance of fire protection systems including alarm and detection, water-based and gaseous suppression systems, fire and life safety code reviews, and fire hazard analysis.


  • Familiarity with Department of Energy Fire Protection Programs.

  • Familiarity/Working knowledge of the Building Code set for New York State and associated reference standards

  • Experience with the development of engineering documents (e.g. engineering analysis, technical specifications, functional requirements, cost estimates, maintenance requirements, engineering drawings, etc.)

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification

  • Strong interpersonal and teaming skills

  • Coordination of multi-discipline teams

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Familiarity with appropriate engineering software computer tools

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 if less than 5 years from graduation
