Our teams developand maintainJ2EE based Web applications and Mobile applications (iOS, Android) forthe healthcare industry. We develop and maintain a unique suite of applications that physicians use to take care of their patients. What is so unique? Our applications are based on modern UI and technology standards (Java Stack, Native Swift iOS, Native Java Android).

We are seeking a Software Engineering Architect Fellow who will provide technical direction and guidance focused on specific aspects of Information Technology based upon their technical domain of knowledge and experience for one of the largest healthcare companies in the US with international reach. This position will focus on driving innovation and opportunity aligned with PatientKeeper's business strategies and fostering a healthy technology innovation focused culture. The Software Engineering Fellow position is explicitly non-managerial and recognizes the value of the individual's technical knowledge, vision, communication skills and technical leadership.

In this role, youwill work closely with key leadership in various business and technical domains while reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. The role will research areas of challenge and opportunity, resulting in novel solutions, improved partner relationships and proofs-of-concept providing objective metrics of the potential risk and reward of various innovation paths. The role recognizes an individual's ability to lead, influence and direct innovation paths within a specific technology domain resulting from executive leadership direction.

This position will focus on software engineering activities to enable forward thinking capabilities that ensure continued growth and success in emerging healthcare technology. The individual will work with and engage with other technical domain experts, Solution Architects, Business Domain Leadership, ITG Leadership, Division Leadership and IT Strategy. Additionally, key focus areas will require direct interaction with end users and other constituents and consumers of the technology direction and solutions.

You must be able to effectively communicate and consult with leadership to understand business needs and challenges; then enable the development or delivery of IT solutions that solve those challenges. Project and problem management skills are required to ensure the necessary attention to detail and focus such IT initiatives demand. The position will identify necessary areas of innovation and opportunities that align and integrate with PatientKeeper applications and infrastructure capabilities.

Required Skills


  • Possesses an understanding of general architecture design considerations and practices

  • Aptitude for and experience in quickly learning new technologies

  • Experience in advising and consulting others on technical design directions and decisions as an internal or external consultant

  • Must be able to work with a variety of group members, both functional and technical, across HCA and other organizations to define requirements, resolve issues, and meet deadlines

  • Experience in developing complex project and/or organization architectures

  • Understanding of and appreciation for other architecture domains (e.g., information, business process, organization)

  • Work with key vendor partners to define PatientKeeper standards and influence the delivery of PatientKeeper specific capabilities within said vendor partner products, ensuring technology domain specific roadmap alignment

  • Industry knowledge of new and emerging technology along with identification of key barriers and opportunities

  • A recognized expert in a specific technical domain delivering and/or supporting solutions using many of the following technologies, concepts and processes:

    • Distributed, Centralized, Client/Server and Edge pattern knowledge

    • Cloud technology and methodologies

    • Object/Component Pattern-Based Design

    • Security Concepts

    • Data Modeling Concepts

    • Workflow Engines

    • Rules Engines

    • MessagingConcepts

    • Database Technologies including DB2/UDB, MS SQL, Oracle, Essbase, Teradata

    • Web Services / SOAP

    • Integration Technologies

    • Application Servers



  • Ability to identify and evangelize the selection of new technology to be introduced at PatientKeeper (including both custom built solutions and commercially available purchased solutions) based on their fitness to achieving business objectives

  • Regular participation and contribution to the broader PatientKeeper technology communities (e.g. - Development, Networking, Infrastructure, Data Science and Analytics, etc.) and the community as a whole (e.g. technical meetup groups, conferences, industry forums)

  • Active participation in Architecture Reviews performing full 360 degree review of solution and/or architecture

Role & Responsibilities


  • Serve as lead technologist where appropriate/assigned on initiatives at the direction of executive leadership

  • Develop and maintain core components of the Architecture Plan to ensure these are up-to-date

  • Direct, identify and proof emerging technologies

  • Ensure project technology decisions are aligned to Architecture standards and policies (or otherwise see that they are expanded)

  • Identify architecture challenges related to the project activities and work with Product Managers, Product Owners, Architects and Engineers to resolve

  • Provide mentoring and guidance on technical and architectural direction, methodology, design, and reuse

  • Evaluates current or emerging tools and technologies and recommends these tools

  • Will work with our security, networking, and other departments to ensure that our integration solutions meet all established policies

Experience & Education


  • 15+ years of relevant experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferredor an equivalent combination of education or experience

  • Some travel may be required but generally less than 10%
