TransPower is looking for a Vehicle Calibration Engineer who will work in the Vehicle Validation and Calibration group, mainly focusing on in-vehicle function tests originating from the user perspective. Testing will be largely based in Escondido at TransPower’s facility. Could require travel to other places such as OEM proving grounds with especially extreme operating conditions within and possibly outside of the USA.
Job Responsibilities
Calibrate drivability related subsystems for an electric vehicle including Creep Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Zero-crossing, Regen torque, Low SoC performance, etc
Calibrate charging subsystems for an electric vehicle including Level 1 and 2 AC charging and Level 3 DC Fast Charging for development and production projects
Calibrate shift strategy and powertrain
System integration and testing of Class 6 and Class 8 commercial vehicles including tractors, refuse trucks, school buses, and yard tractors
Responsible for planning and execution of vehicle calibration activities in test labs (chassis dyno, climatic wind tunnel), proving grounds and public roads
Work in association with component owners, suppliers, HIL, Test-Rig and System test groups to define overall vehicle test strategy, test requirements
Troubleshoot overall vehicle issues and support workshop activities and repairs
Implement automated testing, data analysis and test reports generation
Flexibility and open mentality for a dynamic atmosphere
Self-organized, solution oriented and good communication skills
Up to 25% domestic and international travel required
B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, or related field and 3 – 5 years of related industry experience.
M.S degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, or related field preferred and 2 – 3 years of related industry experience.
Experience with Model Based Controls Software in Matlab/Simulink
5+ years of working experience on electric powertrain with strong knowledge of battery systems, charging, transmissions, diagnostics management, thermal management, etc.
Experience with automatic-manual transmissions
Experience with requirements management tracking tools using DOORS, Polarion, JAMA, etc.
Experience/knowledge in High Voltage Safety Standards and safety work procedures
Experience in system integration with software testing and validation
Proficient in use of measurement, data analysis, calibration, and simulation tools such as Raptor Dev/Cal, INCA, Canalyzer, Canoe, ATI Vision, Canape, GT Suite, etc.
A Class A or B CDL (or be eligible to attain one)
Experience with Functional Safety ISO26262 standard
