Job Summary

Under general supervision, selects vendors and purchases materials and equipment. Maintains and controls a system of records relative to purchase orders and their approval. Evaluates the service of vendors and the quality of items purchased. Reviews purchase requests for need and invoices for compliance and completeness for payments. May provide direction to less experienced procurement specialists.

Job responsibilities:


  • Coordinates all activities related to procurement of a commodity beginning with intent to purchase through delivery.

  • Analyzes the requirements of the commodity, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date commodity is needed.

  • Solicits and evaluates proposals for the requested commodity.

  • Investigates and/or interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements.

  • Advises team members or management on the appropriate supplier to be used.

  • Negotiates the lowest possible cost for the commodity balanced against the optimum quality and schedule needs. All final contract decisions to be made under the direction of the Director of Purchasing.

  • Implements purchase contracts that comply with company and government regulations.

  • Assures that the commodity is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of the company.

  • Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.

  • Coordinates appropriate methods needed to distribute commodity in a cost-effective manner.

  • Other duties will be assigned as requested.

Job Requirements:


  • AA degree in Business or related field.

  • 1 year related experience in a manufacturing work environment.

  • Experience in SAP and Lawson/M3 ERP systems.

  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft office with strong Microsoft Excel skills.


Preferred Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university preferred.

  • A background in the hunting, fishing, or outdoor sporting goods market.

  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.

  • Good problem-solving skills.

  • Must maintain company confidentiality.

  • Working in a Team orientated environment.
