Job Description:

This position will serve both ADESA Pittsburgh (New Stanton, PA) and ADESA Mercer (Mercer, PA). The District HR Generalist will share time between both sites weekly.

Reports to the District Human Resources Manager. This position will assist in the development and documentation of all Human Resources Policies, Procedures, Forms, Manuals, and Performance Management materials and other duties assigned by the District Human Resources Manager.  This position is considered a vital link between management and the employees and must foster a positive, healthy and enthusiastic work environment free of inappropriate behavior.  Must know, practice and ensure that company policies and procedures and state and federal laws are followed at all times.  The ability to handle assignments that are of a confidential and complex nature with considerable discretion, judgment and tact is imperative.

Job Description

  • Maintain good relationships with corporate HR staff, field HR staff, and company management of all business units to ensure and maintain open communication.

  • Oversee the hiring process and assist management in hiring for exempt and non-exempt personnel.

  • Responsible for the processing of all driver motor vehicle record checks as well as pre-employment screenings for potential new hires.

  • Conduct new hire orientation and training of employees on company policies and procedures.

  • Assist management in planning and implementing staffing and scheduling, and monitoring overall changes in headcount.

  • Coordinate with Corporate HR with the administration of compensation, payroll, PTO and benefits, along with maintaining employee personnel files.

  • Coach and advise management on policy compliance, disciplinary action, performance management and handling employee relation issues.

  • Promote local employee community involvement and company/employee outings and social activities.

  • Practice and promote teamwork at all times.  Set a good personal example of attitude and performance.  

  • Administer and track all FMLA/STD/Medical related leave of absences.

  • Manage and respond to all unemployment claims, including participating in hearings.

  • Oversee the substance abuse and testing program for post hiring situations (post-incident and reasonable suspicion) and related procedures.    

  • Manage Worker’s Compensation claims.  Respond to and ensure proper procedure is followed for employee accidents, injuries and property loss/damage incidents in a timely manner.  Ensure OSHA compliance and maintain logs.

  • Attend Human Resources educational meetings and seminars to stay current with legal requirements and other emerging trends in the field.

Educational Requirements and Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with at least 3 years of HR experience is required, preferably in a multi-site and/or multi-state organization.  At least one (1) year of exempt Human Resources experience is preferred.  SPHR, PHR, or related certification (or progress toward certification) is preferred.  Must have knowledge of principles and practices of HR administration, policies, procedures and employment law.  Experience with MS Office is required.  Experience utilizing payroll/timekeeping systems and recruiting systems is preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
