LEAD SCIENTIST-MATERIALS

Neenah, WI

Position Summary:
The primary role of this position is the material expert who will assume material lead to identify, develop and qualify the materials in fastening and adhesive space for use in Kimberly Clark Personal Care products. The scope of work is mainly in Development and Commercialization of materials (IMF project, supply continuity, cost saving, regulatory compliance) within Personal Care projects.
 

Scope:


  • The candidate reports to an R&E Sr. Manager and works closely with Technical Leaders and Senior Scientist.

  • The candidate should be able to develop their own working plans and manage the change control of the materials changes for FDA regulated Class I product.

  • This role will work in conjunction with the PC R&E Product and Process Teams, Project Teams, Supply Chain (incl. K-C Global NonWovens Teams), External suppliers, and other PC cross-functional organizations.

  • As the entire Personal Care R&E Materials team works as one team, there may be a need to adjust accountabilities and flow to work in order to meet business priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

The role requires knowledge of materials and product system to innovate the performance relationship with hygienic absorbent product. Responsibilities include to identify customer needs in both short and long term, identify and develop material solutions to meet those needs, prove technical feasibility, and move them towards commercialization. The role also requires the capability to comply and improve change control process with regulated product, working with quality, regulatory, product safety team.


  • Collaborate with Product teams to understand business innovation plans.  Utilize the business innovation plans to lead development within pads and tampon material space.

  • Collaborate with PC IMF project teams and ensure development/commercialization work for material innovation is effectively progressed.

  • Collaborate with PC R&E Process, Materials Value Stream, GNW, ST&C, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Global R&E teams in order to understand opportunity areas to improve efficiency and effectiveness in delivering innovation.

  • Collaborate with key material suppliers to develop relationship and technology to accelerate the meaningful innovation to our consumers

  • Mentor junior scientists.

  • Protect and defend K-C proprietary product and technology through the appropriate use of patents and trade secrets.

  • Ensure all work complies with corporate safety, regulatory, product safety and sustainability requirements.

Required Qualifications:


  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in a major scientific or engineering discipline. Alternatively, demonstrated equivalent scientific ability, based on relevant experience (Material Science/Development or Nonwovens/Polymer knowledge) and appropriate education.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in an R&E, or in a variety of technical or scientific assignments.

  • A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and across functional boundaries to complete projects within required timeframes.

  • Exceptional communication skills. Has the ability to effectively translate complex technical concepts to others.

  • Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge through training and mentorship.

  • Must be able to work independently and progress with limited instruction and also as part of a larger cross functional team. Must be able to travel up to 20% if needed, including some international travel.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Ability to flow between initial product/material development stages through commercialization.

  • Working knowledge of material properties and their impact on product performance.

  • AFC product/material development experience.

  • Regulatory experience with FDA Class I Medical devices.

  • Experience with Process Validation, Design Control and Risk Management.
