Cardno is seeking a staff or senior staff scientist, with a focus in marine science, to assist a multidisciplinary team of accomplished environmental scientists, including engineers, biologists, ecologists, archaeologists, and planners on a variety of projects. We are seeking an individual ready to engage in a fast-paced, applied science role in our Boynton Beach, Florida office.

Cardno is seeking a staff or senior staff scientist, with a focus in marine science, to assist a multidisciplinary team of accomplished environmental scientists, including engineers, biologists, ecologists, archaeologists, and planners on a variety of projects. We are seeking an individual ready to engage in a fast-paced, applied science role in our Boynton Beach, Florida office.


The successful applicant will be involved in all aspects of Cardno projects including (but not limited to) field surveys and ecological monitoring, data entry and QA/QC, data analysis, equipment maintenance, small boat operations, project support, and occasional client interaction. The applicant will also contribute to project planning, report development and review, and proposal writing. The candidate must have experience with survey protocols for underwater habitat mapping and hardbottom characterization, coral identification, seagrass identification, benthic monitoring, and fish surveys. Additional, experience with mangrove assessments and other coastal wetland delineation is preferred. The successful applicant must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to take on task ownership and responsibility for task progress. This position could require periodic domestic travel, sometimes at short notice and on weekends, during all times of the year, during both daytime and nighttime shifts.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


* Supporting the quality, validity, and accuracy of a project's science component
*Conduct field work with a focus on surveys in estuarine and nearshore marine habitats
*Collect, organize, and analyze ecological data, adhering to quality assurance protocols
*Prepare technical reports for client, stakeholder, and agency review
* Ability to work in challenging outdoor conditions
* Adhering to company standards and procedures
* Satisfactory completion of assigned training and safety meetings as applicable

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:


* B.S. or M.S. in marine science, biology, ecology, biological oceanography or a related field, with at least 4 years of professional experience
* Demonstrated ability to work as part of a close-knit team and independently
* Ability, availability, and responsiveness to enable work on multiple projects
* SCUBA open water certification

Preferred Skills and Experience:

* Advanced open water or rescue diver certification
* Scientific diving experience or AAUS certification
* Marine flora and fauna identification skills
* First Aid, CPR, and O2 administration certifications
* Experience with environmental sampling equipment, small boats, or offshore vessels
* Experience with statistical methods and packages (e.g., R, SAS)
* Previous health, safety, and/or environmental hazard training
* Understanding of data integration using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Possess strong technical/scientific writing skills
