Teacher's Assistant (Full-Time Days)

The Teacher's Assistant is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher with all of the responsibilities listed.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Teacher's Assistant at Hackensack MeridianHealth includes:

Assist in creating a safe environment where children can play and learn.
• Provides for the safety and tracking of children.


• Maintaining a safe, healthy, clean and organized classroom environment.


• Assists in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities.


• Communicating appropriately and professionally with parents and fellow staff.


• Participation in mandatory staff meetings and completes annual training requirements.


• Fostering of teamwork.


• Use of assessment tools.


• Commitment to continuing education.


• Supports both CCLC and HUMC policies, procedures and standards.


• Interacting with the children to support play, exploration and learning.


• Cultivate positive relationships with families, team members, and community contacts.


• Identifies the needs of the population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).


• Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.


• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children in a group care setting.


• Must be able to use a computer with basic proficiency.


• Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing with students, staff, administrators and community

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in a group care setting.
