Job Description:
Responsible for highly skilled or routine tasks associated with complex aircraft parts and assemblies, which include the painting of metallic and composite surfaces; corrosion control; surface preparation and the operation of aircraft paint support equipment; identification of technical issues and maintenance of technical publications. Position also works with stencilling and the application of tapes and transfers.
- Researches technical data and performs aircraft parts and/or assembly painting functions, applying knowledge of surface preparation and painting techniques in accordance with customer, company and governmental guidelines.
- Cleans, sands, and applies chemical solutions to prepare and condition surfaces prior to painting.
- Mixes and thins paint or other coatings to specific color and consistency according to standard formulas.
- Masks and covers surfaces not to be painted.
- Sprays specified amount of primer, protective, decorative, or finish coatings, such as paint, lacquer, sealer or enamel onto prepared surfaces using spray paint equipment.
- Follows routine and/or complex blueprints and specifications to perform the following functions: stripping, sanding, masking insignias, symbols or designs; locating other markings on aircraft parts or assemblies; using stencils, patterns, measuring instruments, brushes, or spray equipment.
- Regulates controls on equipment to cure and dry paint or other coatings.
- Sets up and operates portable ventilators, exhaust units as required.
- Performs maintenance work such as repair and maintenance of company equipment and shop housekeeping.
- Operates lifting and moving devices to move materials and equipment as required.
- Understands and complies with the safety regulations as set forth in the company guidelines including the use of protective clothing and respirators.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Work experience and/or training in the use of all types of spray paint equipment and hand tools, wrapping, and stripping for paint, cleaning and corrosion removal required.
- Experience in paint preparation procedures, mix and spray of paints, primers and chemicals.
REQUIRED SKILL IN:
- Requires standing for extended periods of time.
- Requires frequent walking, bending, stooping squatting, reaching above shoulder level and crouching.
- Requires occasional kneeling, balancing, and lifting. May require carrying weight up to 50 lbs.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
