Summary:

In this role as our Director of Software Engineering, you will lead the strategy definition and product development for a set of web services and developer toolkits that will nurture a vibrant Dexcom CGM ecosystem that in turn transforms patient chronic disease management through innovative digital solutions. This strategic role will lead software developers, partner engineering, and partner development to create meaningful innovative digital experiences based on Dexcom is next-generation data platform.

Responsibilities:


  • Lead portfolio vision, architecture, and engineering for Dexcom's API Platform.

  • Lead delivery of next generation external API Platform - Developer portal, REST/OAuth/JSON APIs and mobile/server SDKs and Sandbox

  • Serve as the portfolio owner to drive agile development of innovative partner solutions and partner platform capabilities

  • Establish the portfolio vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs

  • Lead the development of a strategic framework for stakeholders, to govern alignment to Dexcom business goals, technical requirements definition, legal agreements, support and platform levels of service, etc.

  • Develop, prioritize, and execute a portfolio product roadmap with input from the delivery team, stakeholders, and leadership

  • Demonstrate the value proposition of products and capabilities and evangelize the API transformation agenda across the organization

  • Build and lead a passionate and intelligent engineering team to design and create industry-leading SDKs and developer tools

  • Drive the development and cultivation of third-party platform partner relationships to identify product development and innovation opportunities

  • Establish SLA standards for partners, which are operationalized and supported with a partnering engineering capacity.

  • Lead a team of software engineers, and serving as the primary contact for product information

  • Create a prioritized backlog of user stories based on the roadmap

  • Achieve shared understanding with the delivery team through the use of acceptance criteria, examples, use cases, diagrams, and other supporting documentation

  • Provide guidance and feedback throughout the development process to ensure delivery of features

  • Foster relationships with external partners to encourage adoption of the technology and reconcile business goals with the roadmap

  • Present roadmap updates to senior leadership on a recurring basis; manage expectations among stakeholders

  • Analyze and report results and adjust product strategy accordingly

  • Be a patient advocate. Work directly with external API consumers to understand needs, gaps, and opportunities to solve patient and other stakeholder needs.

  • Communicate across departments to ensure success of your portfolio.

  • Collaborate with Marketing to plan go-to-market activities and to ensure stakeholders are excited about, trained on, and aware of launches

  • Deliver crisp technical product requirements to engineering.

  • Direct the creation and maintenance of API documentation, guides, and tutorials.

  • Must be familiar with API technical terminology areas such as REST APIs, GraphQL, request/responses, METHODS, endpoints

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:


  • 7+ years product management experience in a successful SaaS organization and has led one or more product teams in an agile philosophy

  • Deep experience with web technologies, cloud, and mobile

  • Deep experience with RESTful APIs

  • Skilled at writing business cases that meet market and strategic company objectives

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills: Ability to communicate to all levels of the business including stakeholders across the organization

  • 4+ years of software product management experience, preferably with experience building and managing APIs

  • Proficient in defining requirements, writing epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria within the Agile/Scrum methodology

  • Competent with offerings in the "Identity as a Service" space from players like Okta, Auth0 or Google Firebase Authentication

  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions based on data and other factors

  • Able to easily transition between high-level strategy and day-to-day implementation

  • Demonstrated delivery of new products and features working with an agile/scrum team

  • Excellent communication skills, at the engineering/software quality/design level, as well as with executives and clients

  • Comfort collaborating with engineers using at least 2 of the following language stacks: Java, C#, JavaScript/Node.js, Objective C, Python, Ruby

Experience and Education Requirements:


  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of industry experience.

  • 9+ years of successful management experience in relevant industry.

Functional Description:

Directs the activities of a software applications development function for software application enhancements and new products. This position oversees the analysis, design, programming, debugging, and modification of computer programs for commercial or end user applications. Analyzes and investigates applications engineering tasks and prepares design specifications, analysis, and recommendations. Interacts with project managers, marketing, sales, and users to define application requirements and/or necessary modifications.
