Bioinformatics Scientist
The Population and Clinical Informatics group at Illumina is seeking a talented computational scientist to work on developing tools that will transform population-scale sequencing data into novel clinical insights and help improve patient care. Our group is involved in a broad range of projects from the implementation of novel sequence aligners and variant callers to developing custom pipelines for genotyping complex variants in thousands of samples. The work will involve close collaboration with other bioinformaticians at Illumina and external academic laboratories. Your responsibilities may include:
Work with short and long read technologies to develop novel variant calling methods for difficult and medically important parts of the genome
Analyze population-scale sequencing data to benchmark and improve variant callers
Apply population genetics theory to large sample cohorts to develop novel methods of assessing data quality
Collaborate with Illumina’s clinical laboratory on solving undiagnosed disease cases
Required Skills & Experience
PhD in bioinformatics, statistics, computer science, genetics or related field of study
Strong understanding of standard statistical methods
Experience analyzing next-generation sequencing data
Proficiency in C++, Python, C#, or Java
Exceptional ability to present methods to the research community via publications and conference presentations
