Covia, located in Independence, OH, has an immediate opening for a Commercial Rail Analyst. This individual will provide efficient and effective Transportation / Logistics experience dealing with rail freight carrier operations and customer service. Provide hands on support, analysis, and cost-effective solutions for comprehensive rail freight management operations.



The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:



  • Manage empty railcar pools keeping plants stocked with cars to load

  • Assist in making Rail Rate Requests

  • Maintain Rail Rate Entry/Rate System (Bourque)

  • Analyze Rail Contract Compliance

  • Support invoicing for storage facilities and processing of miscellaneous freight bills

  • Rebate Tracking Processing

  • Fuel Surcharge Management

  • Ability to communicate verbally & electronically with railroads as needed

  • Provide rail demurrage rate calculations and cost comparisons upon request

  • Strong sense of urgency and passion to provide outstanding customer service



The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:



  • 3-5 years of experience in a rail centric organization

  • Bachelor degree required, with focus in Logistics or Supply Chain preferred

  • Highly motivated self-starter with a positive attitude who has the ability to handle multiple functions at one time in a fast-paced environment.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, highly proficient in MS Excel

  • Capability to build dashboards in MS PowerBI

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be detail oriented.

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work overtime and flexible work hours as required to complete daily assignments.

  • Travel requirement 10-15%
