Job Description


Danfoss Editron in Longmont, Colorado is searching for a creative and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to perform tasks and provide technical leadership and support at all stages of full lifecycle product development for electric motors and inverters. The ideal candidate will have experience with the design of rotating machinery (shaft, bearing systems, enclosure structural and thermal design), as well as significant experience with the specification, analysis and testing of Engineering materials.

Job Responsibilities



  • Design analysis (including but not limited to)

    • Component and/or assembly stress analysis (hand calculations and FEA)

    • Bearing specification analysis (fits on housing and shaft, B10 life analysis)

    • Involute spline geometry and spline stress analysis

    • GD&T and other tolerance stack up analysis

    • Fatigue analysis (S-N curve application)

    • Engineering material property research and analysis

    • Modal analysis of fixed and rotating parts (natural frequency evaluation)

    • Design and specify thermal (interference) assembly fits

    • Design and specify assembly clearance and interference fits

    • Heat transfer analysis, heat sink and/or coolant channel design

    • Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) or similar



  • Design validation specification and testing

  • Engineering reports and documentation

  • Drawing checking

  • Mechanical design

  • Bill of Materials (BOM) configuration and management

  • Engineering Change documentation generation

  • Engineering application research

  • Project budget and scope estimation

  • Evaluate final product's overall performance, reliability and safety


Background & Skills



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree is required

  • 5+ years' of directly applicable (motor mechanical design) experience is preferred

  • 10+ years' of related experience will be considered in lieu of the directly applicable expereince

  • Experience with engineering analysis tools such as: ANSYS, ProMechanica, or similar

  • 2D drafting and 3D CAD modeling experience

    • Pro/Engineer with applicable Product Development Management (PDM) software is preferable.

    • Siemens NX with Teamcenter experience is also desired.



  • Mathematical computing and analysis tools knowledge such as: Matlab, Excel, and/or LabView

  • Excellent technical writing skills to generate concise engineering reports and provide accurate engineering documentation

  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance analysis for product design

  • Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, etc.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%
