POSITION PURPOSE:

The Senior Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator is responsible for being part of and mentoring a team of Database Administrators remotely supporting multiple Microsoft SQL Server Installations on our clients' systems all over the world.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Work with clients on database daily management as well as longer-term database projects.

* Proactively ensure optimal availability and performance of the database systems.

* Troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server issues while working concurrently with multiple priorities.

* Develop improvement and maintenance plans for databases to include installations/upgrades/migrations.

* Develop and implement procedures for maintenance and alert responses.

* Resolve database performance issues, capacity needs, and security concerns.

* Troubleshoot replication and HA/DR issues.

* Produce scripts for maintenance and database housekeeping needs.

* Perform database audits.

* Deliver an exceptional customer experience every day.

* Ensure proper ticket handling and proper client responses

* Triage incoming tickets and escalate as needed.

* Perform 24/7 on-call in a rotation with other SQL Server DBA Team members.

Requirements

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Possess a minimum of 8 years of related experience.

* Be process-oriented with strong execution and follow-through skills.

* Have experience supporting current version releases of Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment.

* Have strong written and oral communication skills.

* Be a team player with ability to multitask with minimal supervision and high reliability.

* Possess excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

* Have experience with database backup and recovery.

* Have experience with the Microsoft SQL Server installation and upgrade process for both standalone and clustered servers.

* Have experience with multiple Microsoft HA/DR technologies including but not limited to:

  • failover clustering
  • availability groups
  • replication
  • log shipping
  • database mirroring

* Have experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualization.

* Knowledge of Analysis Services/Reporting Services/SSIS is beneficial but not required.

* Be passionate for learning and applying evolving technologies.

* Have a strong customer focus, including the ability to focus on the client's requirements and exceed expectations.

* Possess knowledge of Windows commands as they relate to database needs.

* Possess knowledge of basic networking as it relate to Database needs.


EDUCATION

* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or equivalent work experience.

* Possession of or willingness to earn Microsoft SQL Server and/or other certifications within an agreed-upon timeframe with manager

  • Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) in a current version of SQL Server
  • Progress toward the Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) in a current version of SQL Server - this is not a hiring requirement but will be the primary training path until it is achieved
  • Amazon AWS certifications are beneficial but not a hiring requirement
  • VMware certifications are beneficial but not a hiring requirement
