We are currently looking for a full time Engineering Technician with EMC experience for our avionics product development team at our Salem, Oregon location. In this Engineering Technician position, you will be empowered to execute and troubleshoot complete complex component and system level EMC validation testing according to DO160/RTCA and other international standards.
Other responsibilities include:
Assist Design Engineers through reading schematics, understanding and debugging basic circuits to the component level
Provide the test and data analysis support and clearly communicate test data to the EMC Engineers.
Understand system interconnects and wiring practices and is able to diagnose and correct connection and wiring problems and/or create system wiring diagrams with assistance
Perform electrical circuit prototyping, breadboard construction and troubleshooting including reading/following schematics and layout drawings to identify solder and assembly problems and correcting problems with assistance
Able to operate basic and advanced lab test equipment to test and troubleshoot test failures, including using equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, logic analyzers, amplifiers, signal generators, and function generators.
Set up and execute product test plans and provide detailed test reports (i.e. DV, PV, DO160, live GPS testing, FCC/CE, etc.)
Perform basic PCB and unit modifications including adjusting, calibrating, aligning, and/or modifying circuitry and components and record effects on unit performance and learn skills for handling more difficult hardware modifications
Prepare and execute electrical rework and software updates on lab prototypes
Check and/or test functionality of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions
Write technical reports, including documentation of the test setup, block diagrams, and test setup schematics to fully document test results and analysis
Work with various computer systems and programs to execute environmental tests and complete component or equipment purchase orders
Recommend design improvements and changes in basic circuitry or assembly methods to improve reliability or simplify assembly and maintenance and learn to be an expert in difficult hardware modifications
Track lab equipment and coordinate with the Calibration Lab to ensure equipment calibration compliance
Serve as a mentor to other engineering technicians
Thoroughly document work in an organized manner
Work collaboratively and professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals including sharing ideas and information freely and positively
Accepts and acts on constructive criticism
Identifies and resolves defects of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniques
Qualified candidates possess an Associate Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology from a technical/vocational institution or a four-year college or university with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other requirements for this role include:
Demonstrated ability to apply test processes and methods to verify design and product performance
Demonstrated ability to read schematics, understand and debug basic circuits
Must demonstrate the ability to operate basic and advanced lab equipment including oscilloscopes, EMC analyzers, etc.
Understand product test plans and procedures including FCC, CE, and live GPS testing
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must exhibit professionalism, be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
Desirable qualifications include:
Superior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)
EMC or other test validations to International Standard
Avionics or Aviation background experience
Test software development experience
