At PTC Therapeutics, the position of Manager, Project Management provides technical and operational guidance to the framework, processes and tools that enable teams to effectively plan, execute and report on PTC’s programs across all stages of drug development. This is a unique opportunity to impact the design, development and management of breakthrough technologies and groundbreaking research to develop drug therapies. Project Managers (PMs) support cross-functional project teams to ensure projects meet objectives and deliverables. PMs are also accountable for driving department and functional initiatives to completion.

The incumbent PM leads and facilitates cross-functional teams and meetings comprised of both internal and external resources including but not limited to: clinical operations, biostatistics, medical writing, medical monitoring, safety, clinical supplies, regulatory affairs, quality, pharmaceutical development, manufacturing, medical affairs, commercial development, marketing, finance, and legal, etc. Earlier stage projects may also involve participation from discovery research (e.g. biology, medicinal chemistry, pre-clinical pharmacology, toxicology, etc.) while later stage projects may involve participation from the commercial organization (e.g. patient advocacy, etc.)

PMs serve as the primary point of contact for project teams on status of all program-related issues, both on-going and potential, as appropriate. The incumbent will directly support the creation and maintenance of integrated timelines, project backlogs, and strategic development plans. PMs will periodically review progress and ensure alignment among multiple stakeholders and collaborate with other project managers and planners for optimal alignment and visibility of deliverables. PMs are expected to draw on their knowledge and expertise in small molecule, biologics and/or gene therapy development to guide key stakeholders and partners in facilitating progress, removing impediments, and fostering a mindset of continuous improvement.  PMs work with diverse groups of employees at all levels, and support teams working on projects of different types and stages.

Project Managers at PTC are agents of change, pioneering the application of Project Management values and Agile principles in biopharma, while adhering to relevant regulatory requirements and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Self-motivated, and focused with excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects in a virtual environment

  • Independently create detailed work breakdown structures for project deliverables that identify and sequence activities to be completed to support a project or program

  • Encourage autonomy and exemplify a “team first” mentality

  • Maintain a positive virtual presence and guide teams during periodic check-ins with key stakeholders to elicit feedback on output

  • Proactively identify potential problems and remove impediments to individual and team performance

  • Foster a trusting, safe environment where problems can be raised without fear or judgment

  • Facilitate project and team meetings to emphasize problem solving and process improvement

  • Maintain program documentation and ensure aligned communication internal and external to program team.

  • Maintain open lines of communication to improve transparency and reduce conflict

  • Coach and educate new team members in their role on teams

  • Lead and execute department initiatives

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED


  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

  • Minimum of 6 years' of progressively responsible Project Management experience in a cross-functional drug development role

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project

  • Proven ability to establish strong working relationships and achieve measurable results

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills

  • Ability to influence without direct authority

  • Ability and technical experience to thrive in a remote environment

  • Determination and resilience when faced with challenging situations, obstacles, or individuals

  • Strong situational/social awareness and conflict resolution skills

  • Change management experience, particularly involving continuous improvement, team empowerment, and transparency focused initiatives

  • Managerial courage, maturity, and perspective when working with senior leaders and experts

  • Experience in rare diseases, a plus

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), a plus
