Job Description Summary

Insitu is looking for critical, analytical problem-solvers to join our mechanical engineering team. Engineering is at the core of our products and provides technical development and support for all our products and services - our engineers are vital to getting our aircraft off the ground and delivering superior products to customers.

Mechanical Engineers:


  • Design mechanical / electromechanical products and systems

  • Evaluate customer requirements, conduct trade studies, perform make/buy assessments and develop design criteria

  • Specify system components or product modifications

  • Conduct engineering analysis and generate risk mitigation plans and strategies

  • Creates proof of concept and performs modeling/CAD analysis and prototype development.

  • Develop vendor technical requirements and monitor vendor performance to plan

  • Develop and deliver design review packages

  • Develop technical drawings and design specification documentation

  • Conduct verification/validation analysis to include feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems

  • Document engineering design development outcome and analysis

  • Establish test plan/procedures, execute / monitor tests, document outcomes and confirm design requirements

  • Perform root cause analysis of identified deficiencies and enact corrective actions

  • Assess / analyze operational events. Investigate equipment failures and diagnose faulty operation.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


  • Experience with CAE tools for solid modeling, FEA, and drafting.

  • Ability to apply mechanical engineering theory to practical designs.

  • Design for Manufacturability experience; knowledge of common metallic manufacturing and fabrication processes, materials science, and prototyping techniques employed to create cost efficient, simple, reliable designs. Hands-on aptitude.

  • Experience specifying, designing and controlling mechanical, fluid and electrical component and system interfaces.

  • Ability to derive component and subsystem test requirements from system documentation, test plans, internal collaboration and external customers.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to engage and proactively support a cross-functional team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


  • Solidworks experience

  • Knowledge of environmental, structural and vibratory test techniques, methods, equipment and instrumentation

  • Experience developing and maturing initial concepts through final validation / pre-production

  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning & tolerance

  • Knowledge of polymer composite material design and common manufacturing techniques

  • Knowledge of domestic and international regulations (e.g. FAA or DOD regulations) on the certification of test articles/vehicles to assure compliance of design

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

2-4 years in an engineering classification with a Bachelor's degree or 0-2 years' experience in an engineering classification with a Master's degree.
