Job Description:

Responsible for the maintenance of tax records and the preparation of composite tax returns and related reports to ensure enterprise compliance with all federal, state and local tax regulations.  Has direct leadership responsibility for departmental staff.



  •   Manage the company’s compliance with tax laws and regulations through timely filing of tax returns and other required reporting.  Provide analyses and review of calculations related to federal income tax returns, state and local tax filings, quarterly federal income tax estimated payments, state premium tax filings and communication from tax authorities.


  • Implement and manage review process of quarterly and annual income tax provision (ASC 740) and tax related financial statement disclosures (GAAP and statutory).


  • Manage information flow between departments that provide information for tax compliance to ensure required data is exchanged efficiently and timely.  Partner with corporate and subsidiary controllers to identify tax opportunities and risks.


  • Assist in implementing tax strategies and performing research related to complex federal, state and local tax issues such as acquisitions, dispositions, tax return filing positions, payroll tax, sales and use tax, premium tax, claims tax, unclaimed property and real and personal property tax.


  • Lead efforts to develop processes and procedures to improve efficiency of overall tax department operations.


  • Manage external audit team with the Internal Revenue Service and/or state authorities. Collaborate with related finance division departments and external reporting teams.


  • Other duties as assigned.


" Qualifications"


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required. Advanced degree (J.D. MBA, MST) preferred. Certified Public Accountant(CPA) certification preferred.

  • Seven (7) years experience in a corporate tax environment with responsibility for income tax accounting, tax research and compliance.

  • Two (2) years experience with corporate taxation in the health care or insurance industry preferred.

  • Leadership experience.

  • Ability to meet strict internal and external deadlines and maintain composure.

  • Ability to identify and remove barriers to process improvements and change.

  • Ability to effectively research technical tax issues.

  • Well developed understanding of financial systems such as PeopleSoft. Proficient use of Thomson Reuters OneSource Tax Provision and Return.

  • Demonstrated project management skills. Advanced knowledge and experience of ASC 740, FIN 48 and SSAP101 reporting.

  • Proficient in current industry standard PC applications and systems (Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
