A dynamic hub of the Cornell University campus and a recognized leader in collegiate retailing innovation, the Cornell Retail Services team serves students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors through its 22,000 sq. ft. main store, online store, and branch locations, producing $25 million in annual sales and consistently achieving outstanding operational benchmarks. Cornell Retail Services strives to deliver legendary customer service, provide a rewarding work experience, and produce excellent financial results. The Cornell Store's Ecommerce business is rapidly approaching $7 million in annual sales with an aggressive projected growth plan over the next five years.

As a member of the Ecommerce, Retail Marketing and Communications team, the Ecommerce and Marketing Specialist will be a key participant in helping to significantly grow ecommerce sales and grow the online global retail presence for Cornell University. The Ecommerce and Marketing Specialist works closely with the Marketing team, Merchandising and Buying team, Retail/Store Operations team, Customer Care and store leadership to develop dynamic digital content and ecommerce strategies for the Cornell Store's online retail channels including our customer website, interdepartmental procurement website, Cornell Print Services website, as well as our specialty stores and supplemental web pages. This position is actively focused on deploying creative content, assisting in creating effective marketing promotions, coordinating deployment of digital content to align with marketing initiatives, providing operational effectiveness and enhancing website accessibility.

A successful Ecommerce and Marketing Specialist will be:


  • Knowledgeable of current ecommerce consumer and business trends to ensure the appropriate strategies are delivered to meet the needs of each customer segment such as students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, prospective students, visitors and ecommerce customers.


  • Flexible and agile in a fast-paced business environment with challenging deadlines or priorities to ensure we continually meet key objectives


  • Able to think creatively and demonstrate a high value on accuracy through strong organizational skills that ensure a high standards for quality and service


  • Highly collaborative but also have the analytical skills needed take initiative, execute directives and work independently.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field and at least 2 years of relevant experience including writing and creating digital content for use on the web, social media, and email; or an equivalent combination or education and experience.


  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skill including editing and proofing skills.


  • Advanced knowledge of HTML as well as experience with Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Suite, and a demonstrated understanding of digital production process and techniques.


  • Graphic design skills for digital and print media including experience with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Additional experience specifically in a collegiate business environment, a multi-channel retail environment and/or maintaining an ecommerce website.


  • Experience with CSS and JavaScript


  • Prior experience managing budgets and forecasting business revenue
