JOB DESCRIPTION:


 


Axon is seeking a Technical Writer to create, maintain and produce clear, concise and effective technical documentation for Axon products in electronic and print media.  This position will report to the Director of Engineering.  Responsibilities include the following:


 



  • Develops complete machinery manuals using FrameMaker for new machinery, including verbiage, tables and pictures, by consulting with subject matter experts to develop content to align with defined standards.

  • Modifies machinery manual sections as needed to maintain accuracy with current format, scope and revisions.

  • Generates semi-custom machinery manuals using standard manual templates, based on job Bills of Materials.

  • Creates sections within the manual for new sub-assemblies including overview and user operational descriptions.

  • Produces assembly instructions, sales literature, reference and technical documentation for Engineering, Operations, Sales, Marketing and Aftermarket departments as needed.

  • Gathers pertinent information by reviewing job Bill of Materials, engineering drawings and schematics; observing production and product test activities to successfully organize and compile manuals and technical documentation.

  • Effectively interfaces with Engineering, Operations, Sales, Marketing and Aftermarket to acquire needed information.

  • Compiles photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts for user friendly illustrations through documentation.

  • Maintains an organized and up to date electronic file structure of manuals within our PDM Database.

  • Completes fully compiled manuals in PDF, Print and digital copy on a thumb drive by due dates assigned in Basecamp.

  • Verifies accuracy and consistency of documentation between manuals, sales literature, quotes and the website.

  • Publishes online manuals, tutorials and videos for customer use (future plans).

 


JOB REQUIREMENTS:


 



  • Seasoned in FrameMaker, PDF Editing Software (Nitro Pro) and photo-editing software (Photoshop).

  • 4+ years’ technical documentation experience and/or training in an industrial environment or equivalent combination of experience and education (Associates degree in appropriate field such as Technical Writing or Engineering Technology)

  • Strong communication skills to explain complex technical ideas to engineers and the average machine operator.

  • Excellent organization skills with adherence to file structures, naming conventions and other established protocols.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to successfully handle a multi-tasked role.

  • Basic understanding of and experience with machinery operation is preferred.

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Knowledge of BaseCamp, ERP System (Syteline), XML Coding, PDM, SolidWorks and AutoCAD software is a plus.
