Job Description:

As a Senior Analytical Chemistry Associate within SC Johnson’s Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) Analytical Chemistry Laboratory, you will be responsible for developing and validating methods of analysis to measure the ingredients and properties of consumer products.  These measurements may be used to establish product composition, quality, stability or performance.  In the role as GLP analyst or study director, all experimental work for S.C. Johnson’s pesticide and biocide products must be conducted and validated under Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) GLP guidelines.  Data generated within GLP studies must meet global regulatory requirements for use to support global registration of our products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develop and validate quantitative methods of analysis for ingredients in consumer products.


  • Demonstrate proficiency with separation methods including Liquid Chromatography (LC), LC/Mass Spectrometry (MS), Gas Chromatography (GC) and GC/MS.


  • Accurately characterize chemical and physical properties of consumer products using methods based on gravimetric, titrimetric, rheologic and spectroscopic principles.


  • Perform laboratory operations under GLP guidelines as Analyst or Study Director. 


  • Collaborate with registration specialists, product development teams and GLP study sponsors to develop comprehensive test plans that satisfy global data requirements for the chemical and physical properties of pesticide, repellent and biocidal products.    


  • Provide well written test methods and data reports including statistical assessments that meet globally recognized standards. 


  • Strong records management is an important feature of GLP roles, with an emphasis on accurate and detailed completion of all required regulatory compliance and internal documentation, including: GLP study protocols, chain of custody forms, facility records, CofA’s, interim and final study reports.


  • Comply and respond to quality assurance audits of GLP lab and study documentation.


  • Coordinate and sponsor chemical and physical property studies at external laboratories. 


  • Maintain laboratory equipment and test facilities to ensure good operating conditions.


Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:


  • Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or closely related discipline and at least 4 years of analytical laboratory experience in the development and execution of GC, GC/MS, LC or LC/MS separations OR Master Degree in Chemistry or closely related discipline and at least 2 years of analytical laboratory experience in the development and execution of GC, GC/MS, LC or LC/MS separations OR a PhD in Chemistry or closely related discipline.


  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
