SUMMARY


R.S. Harritan Mechanical Contractors is seeking an Assistant Controller in Richmond, Virginia.The Assistant Controller is responsible for the supervision of the accounting staff and overseeing daily operations of the accounting department. The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the month, quarter and year-end close processes, and for ensuring accounts are reconciled to the general ledger. Responsibilities require analytical assumptions regarding the monthly financial statements and assisting with financial reporting to the Sr. Controller and CFO. The Assistant Controller shall assist the Sr. Controller and CFO with the financial functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with industry financial management techniques and Corporate and local best practices.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Practice and promote EMCOR and R.S. Harritan's Code of Ethics, "Leading with Character" in conducting business - both internally and externally.

  • Assist the CFO with preparing for monthly project reviews to evaluate job performance, assess risks and develop action plans.

  • Assist in supervising reporting staff, delegation of responsibilities among staff, and realignment of responsibilities as necessary.

  • Assist in preparing accurate and timely monthly financial statements and budgets.

  • Prepare account reconciliations and record journal entries.

  • Manage the monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes.

  • Prepare for all audits.

  • Maintain the fixed asset and inventory ledgers.

  • Randomly audit work flow accounting transactions are appropriately authorized.

  • Support most aspects of accounting management (billing, AP, fixed assets, payroll, cash reconciliation).

  • Assist in the preparation of tax filing.

  • Participate and support in leading the accounting department in developing the processes/procedures necessary to ensure regulatory compliance, proper records maintenance, and adequate accounting controls in support of Company operations.

  • Participate and support the motivation and advancement of the accounting and finance department to ensure alignment with the Company's operational vision. Instill an attitude of service in the finance organization

  • Lead and participate in special projects as needed.

  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


Plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate the activities and performance of direct reports, including payroll and accounting personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE



  • BA/BS degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting or Business, five to seven years recent related experience and/or training; Active licensed CPA desirable.

  • Significant working knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing financial and accounting practices.

  • Working knowledge of construction contract language and terms.

  • Work experience in the Construction Industry for a large Mechanical and/or Electrical Contractor preferred

  • Experience with preparing for monthly project reviews to evaluate job performance, assess risks and developing action plans preferred

  • Experience overseeing and leading human resources, safety and risk functions is desirable.

  • Experience overseeing employee benefits administration desirable.

  • P&L responsibility for $14-$20 million in revenue desired.



COMPUTER SKILLS



  • Advanced end-user of Microsoft Office (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel) applications.

  • Working knowledge of PC based job cost, general ledger and fixed asset systems.

  • Working knowledge of StarBuilder financial/payroll software or similar cost accounting software.
