Purpose:
The Nuclear Data (ND) Group within the Nuclear Criticality, Radiation Transport and Safety Section of the Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycle Division (NEFCD), Fusion and Fission Energy and Science Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), seeks applicants for a nuclear physicist, with an emphasis in the area of nuclear data research to support nuclear technology applications. The primary function of this open position is to develop novel nuclear data analyses methods to be implemented in ORNL nuclear data evaluation and processing software code packages such as SAMMY and AMPX.

Qualifications Required:
The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in physics or nuclear engineering and demonstrated accomplishments nuclear data evaluation and/or analytical methods development for nuclear data applications. Programming experience in modern FORTRAN and/or C++, is desired, as well as a firm understanding of the physics and methods of cross section processing, nuclear data analysis, and radiation transport analysis backed by demonstrated recent and relevant experience with current analysis codes, such as AMPX, NJOY, SAMMY, SCALE and MCNP. Demonstrated problem-solving skills, a willingness to apply those skills to a variety of problems, and the ability to determine and understand the broader context of his or her research are also requirements for this position.
Experience in nuclear data theory development, experimental data evaluation and covariance development for elastic scattering on materials as a function of temperature is highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills, including verbal, presentation, and writing skills, are required to enable effective interaction with technical peers, program managers, and sponsors. Candidates must also have a successful publication record.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
