Your day.

As a Cook I you need to know how to:


  • Accurately maintains and documents in the HACCP book all appropriate cooking, cooling, and holding temperatures.
  • Accurately cooks a variety of foods for exhibition, grill, grab and go, and salad bar. Follows standardized recipes and methods of preparation. Adjusts recipes as needed with supervisor approval. Follows appropriate portion control guidelines.
  • Prepares foods within the assigned meal schedules. Prepare items as ordered for room service. Cook and serve foods for the cafe grill.
  • Reviews any food allergies listed and ensures allergen is not in any foods served to the patient or the customer.
  • Preps ingredients in accordance the production sheets. Accurately completes production sheets and par sheets daily. Assures that foods are prepped to the par level in the production sheets, and are labeled and dated.
  • Preps ingredients for recipes for patients and the cafe. Assists with food preparation and production for catering as needed.
  • Quantifies (by weight) and documents food waste accurately.
  • Demonstrates proper HACCP Food Safety/Sanitation guidelines.
  • Completes assigned cleaning and records it on the cleaning schedule daily. Maintains a clean and sanitized area.
  • Completes temperature logs for all equipment i.e. coolers, freezers, and warmers.
  • Labels all containers of foods after opening, after preparing and all instances where labeling is necessary.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and shows ability to understand the preparation methods of foods served on therapeutic diets.
  • Demonstrates proper care and use of service equipment.
  • Rinses and soaks pans immediately following use.
  • Performs duties for dish washing and tray assembly and delivery to patients as needed.
  • Demonstrates communication skills according to age of patient/visitor/customer. Gives proper instructions to patients/visitor/customer relative to his/her age requirements.

Your experience.

  • High School Degree or GED equivalent, required
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification within 18 months of hire
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years' experience in hospital or healthcare food service, preferred
  • Knowledge and ability of food production, food quality indicators and catering procedures, preferred
