The Langley Air Force Base Grocery Store Manager oversees the daily operations in a retail establishment that sells everyday items. Functional areas include recruiting and training staff, collaborating with vendors, and ensuring that safety policies are implemented. This position’s primary focus is to develop a positive shopping experience to ensure customer satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure all phases of the commissary operation meet contract requirements and quality assurance standards.
Participate in daily communication with Commissary personnel to ascertain problems/concerns, reach decisions regarding appropriate solutions, and to maintain a high level of satisfaction in terms of quality service.
Manage production hours, supply and equipment costs to assure contract requirements are met within budgeted expenditures.
Provide strong leadership and guidance to encourage personnel to succeed.
Make employment decisions (such as, hiring, promotion, termination, disciplinary, recognition, and appraisals) and prepare appropriate documentation.
Prepare reports required for agency or contract use. Ensure accurate recording of labor hours, productivity and related information.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of performance work statement (contract) and adherence to customer standards.
Maintains strong working relationship with the Government Quality Assurance Staff regarding services provided, problem areas, additions/deletions to services verified by Contract Officer.
Develop standards for performance for warehouse, shelf stocking and custodial associates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: Commissary/Grocery/Custodial or comparable experience
Two years supervisory/management experience
Ability to recognize and report items of poor or unacceptable quality.
Ability to work in a military setting.
Ability to work with limited supervision.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates Degree
Bi-Lingual Spanish and English
Prefer incumbent has experience or familiarity with managing AbilityOne contracts, to include training and supervising individuals with disabilities
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Exceptional communication skills (e.g., able to effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints; able to satisfactorily present information in oral or written formats)
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Effective interpersonal skills. Able to get along with diverse personalities and abilities; is tactful, professional and customer service oriented.

Must have reliable transportation.
Must have or be able to obtain base access which includes passing a drug test and background check.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requirements will vary depending on the assigned tasks. This position does require the following: repetitive lifting, push/pull, carrying, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling and prolonged standing. Will involve lifting/moving up to 40 pounds.
AVAILABILITY
This position is a Full Time position. Individual must be able to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends.
RATE OF PAY
Salary starting at $52,000 annually based on experience and qualifications.
