Job Description Summary

The Principal Engineer - Refrigeration Specialist position develops, documents, and supports the company refrigeration strategic vision as well as provide leadership and support to plants for optimization of refrigeration systems. Priority responsibilities focus on assessment and documentation of existing systems, laying out company strategic direction for refrigeration, and direction and support of related projects and best practices. Other areas of accountability center on long-term support and sustainability of freezing systems and include preparation of studies, reports, schedules, budgets, inspections, bid requests, evaluation of bid submittals, direction and coordination of contractors, and project closeouts and analysis.
As a highly skilled refrigeration SME (subject matter expert), this position also serves as a consultant to others to provide technical information and engineering recommendations. A key responsibility is the review of design and project documentation to ensure compliance with performance criteria, company standards, and best practices. As leader of the Lamb Weston refrigeration strategy, conducts feasibility studies for emerging technologies, determines viability for use within the Lamb Weston framework, and helps develop engineering criteria for implementation of the technologies.
This job requires a high level of in-depth refrigeration systems technical skills, organizational and communication skills, and may involve significant travel and on-site time at various plants within the Lamb Weston system. Responsible for development and training Lamb Weston associates in best practices for effective and efficient refrigeration system usage.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned).

  • Lead enterprise refrigeration system initiatives, resources, and long-term strategies.

  • Serve as leader and mentor through focused technical expertise, innovation and leadership.

  • Provide guidance and development on best practices for plant refrigeration systems.

  • Coach, teach, and train operations and maintenance teams on refrigeration fundamentals and advanced operational skills.

  • Monitor effectiveness of overall program and condition of our refrigeration facilities.

  • Identify and promote energy savings and system improvement opportunities.

  • Accountable for timely, accurate and effective implementation of engineering and project related work.

  • Develop and advance professional capabilities of the department.

  • Leadership of project teams in effective project implementations.

  • Meet or exceed project quality, cost, schedule and performance metrics.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Engineering.

  • Professional Engineering licensing and/or accreditation is required.

  • 10+ years of experience in refrigeration systems.

  • Experience in the design, installation, operation, and optimization of refrigeration systems.

  • Experience in project management and maintenance engineering is preferred.

  • Food processing experience is desired.

  • Experience in energy savings and sustainability initiatives

  • PSM and regulatory ASME

  • Manufacturing plant experience in production/quality assurance/support is preferred.

  • Must be detail orientated, possess excellent technical and analytical skills, and be a proven self-starter.

  • Demonstrated capability to work on teams and support others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in desktop applications to include Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
