DBA MySQL Programmer

Location: Woburn, MA

Position Type: Full Time

What you’ll do:

As a Prendio DBA MySQL Programmer, you will join a small but growing team of enthusiastic, hands-on engineers to ensure that our products meet the highest standard of quality. You will need to have hands-on experience with production databases. This role is an integral part of creating a first-class user experience for our fast-growing customer base.

A Prendio DBA MySQL Programmer:


  • Creates databases with efficient structures

  • Writes optimized queries, views, and triggers for integration with other applications

  • Maintains high standards of data quality and integrity

  • Understands issues related to network performance and security

  • Develops and supports MySQL database production, replication, and clustering

  • Monitors and optimizes MySQL database performance and capacity planning

  • Maintains database system availability

  • Plans and executes for database scalability

  • Develops and optimizes database design for new applications

  • Identify opportunities for improved performance in SQL operations and implementations

  • Oversee the operations of the production and staging environments databases

  • Design, implement and monitor disaster recovery plans as it pertains to the production database environment

  • Perform technical troubleshooting to diagnose, isolate and correct data and database issues

  • Give design recommendations for database functions that meet business operating standards while improving the efficiency of business processes

  • Train and mentor junior personnel on best practices

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Required Qualifications:


  • 10+ years of experience in MySQL Administration and programming

  • Demonstrated experience with MySQL database design, implementation, performance tuning, and capacity planning

  • Experience with Open Source/Linux development and production environments

  • Experience with performance analysis (IO, CPU, etc.) and optimization (indexes, partitions, schema redesign, etc.)

  • Solid knowledge of server monitoring for the detection of emerging issues (performance, locking, bad usage, etc.)

  • A solid understanding of Linux - shell scripting and the ability to inspect hardware performance and load indicators

  • A good understanding of master-master replication

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS or similar relevant field

  • Hands on experience with installation and configuration of MySQL in a multi-master environment

  • Applicable expertise in analysis and maintenance planning on production systems

Preferred Qualifications (considered a plus, but not required):


  • Previous experience managing large scale database systems

  • Familiarity with reporting and business intelligence tools like Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SAP Crystal Reports

  • Experience with big data technologies like Hadoop and Spark

  • Working knowledge of Amazon AWS Cloud Services

  • Working knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), specifically Scrum and Agile methodology
