The Hot Tap & Line Stop Technician of WeldFit Services, will lead and perform Line Stop and Hot Tap jobs, unsupervised, for WeldFit. Primarily responsible for safely and competently conducting line stop and/or hot tapping services for customers (pipeline owners/operators). The ideal candidate will display expertise in their craft with significant technical know-how, be able to foster strong customer relationships, be highly resourceful, and have strong communication & paperwork skills.

Duties/Expectations:


  • Competent as a Senior Level Hot Tap and Line Stop technician they should be able to perform, unsupervised, pipeline taps and line stops up to and including 48” ANSI 600 Class

  • Conducts JSA with all onsite personnel prior to onsite work to review and examine line and hot tap work scope to ensure the work scope can be performed safely.

  • Complies with WeldFit and customer HSE standards and procedures, and stops any work when unsafe conditions exist that threaten the safety of people, equipment, and property damage

  • Follows WeldFit standard operating procedures to perform operations and uses troubleshooting procedures to alleviate problems encountered in the field, ensuring safe and efficient field performance from equipment

  • Provides services in the most efficient manner possible while complying with WeldFit cost estimates

  • Ensures that an accurate Daily Field Ticket is completed, signed by the customer and submitted to management by the end of every day

  • Anticipates patterns and links; looks beyond the immediate problem to address wider implications. Has the ability to respond to customer requirements and address problem solving aspects of all WeldFit field work

  • Knowledgeable in handling, assembly, and repair of WeldFit hot tap and line stop equipment. Helps maintains all line stop & hot tap equipment as needed pre and post job

  • Preps equipment needed pre-job in shop (preparation/maintenance), help support the shipment and load out of equipment and paperwork and logging/drafting of the list of equipment loaded

  • Prepares and submits expense reports in accordance with established procedures

  • Maintains all training requirements and completes training modules in a timely manner to maintain certifications

  • Has the ability to respond to customer requirements and address problem solving aspects of all WeldFit field work

  • Exhibits superior customer service and professionalism in communication with customers, engineers, vendors, contractors, and co-workers

  • Operates industry related tools and equipment including fork lift

  • Supports in the process of training, mentoring, and certifying new hot tap and line stop technicians. Recommends changes in procedures.

  • Assist in the selection of appropriate hot tap and line stop fittings for field installations

  • Performs other tasks as may be required by upper management


  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in conducting safe and successful Hot Tap and Line stop jobs for the midstream Oil & Gas Industry

  • High school diploma or GED required; An associate’s degree or related technical certification preferred

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) preferred

  • A track record of performance excellence meeting targets and objectives

  • Effective time management and organization skills

  • Good communication skills written & oral skills

  • Willing to travel extensively (greater than 80%)

  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, take all required training courses and do so timely.

  • Ability to lead large and complex projects or multiple medium projects of high complexity.

  • Advanced knowledge of the process to tap pipeline of various sizes and the ability to anticipate, identify and address hazards of projects before issues arise.

  • Extensive knowledge in the operation, maintenance repair and troubleshooting of various types of line stop/hot tap equipment and the ability to troubleshoot and repair all equipment

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills of hand and power tools

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills of welding and cutting

  • Ability to read field piping drawing and interpret construction details in a construction setting

  • Ability to write clear, concise technical reports

  • Ability to understand and comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, company and industry operating standards and safety procedures.

  • Ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge of emergency response processes, construction, service and Operations and Maintenance manuals

  • Ability to recognize and handle confidential information in a discreet manner

  • Ability to motivate self; operate as a self-starter with individual drive and initiative to start, develop and complete projects and initiatives; and work with little or no supervision

  • Ability to use personal computer software proficiently, such as word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail and database managers

  • Ability to collaborate with Safety/Technical Training teams and interdisciplinary teams within the organization

  • Able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects

  • Able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, balance, climb, crawl, reach, stand, walk, pull, lift, use fingers and grasp on a daily basis

  • Able to travel long distances in a motor vehicle

  • Ability to work overtime (scheduled or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends) occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines

  • Able to work out of doors on a daily basis in all types of weather conditions and under emergency conditions

  • Able to work in areas with limited access or cramped spaces including High exposure to excessive noise, dust, dirt, grease, temperature extremes, and safety hazards

  • Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to a hazardous environment

  • Able to respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and return to work while off duty

  • Able to work with moderate daily pressure to meet deadlines

  • DOT Safety Sensitive Position Random Drug Screening Required
