Lonza Bioscience is actively seeking a Distribution Manager to join our team in Walkersville, MD. This individual will be responsible for the daily management of operations and personnel in the Distribution areas. Participate in all aspects of personnel management including interviewing, training, coaching and developing. Responsible for performing and/or supervising day today tasks to ensure all vendor receipts and customer (internal and external) orders are accurately processed in a timely manner to satisfy customer requirements, while considering company safety, quality and delivery goals.
Key responsibilities:
Ensure all warehouse and shipping areas are operated in a safe, cGMP manner at all times
Ensure all related SOPs are updated promptly to reflect current practices.
Oversee daily area operations and ensure smooth workflow
Participate in selection process of 3PL for local handling inbound and outbound
SME for export and import documentations, mapping of cold chain shipment and procedures
Actively develops direct reports
Assign area task and duties to appropriate personnel
Ensure area personnel have adequate training in relation to their position
Define responsibilities of individuals and groups
Interact and maintain a good working relationship with other Lonza teams
Monitor area paperwork for accuracy and compliance
Ensure all inventory discrepancies are investigated and resolved
Lead representatives in area audits (internal and external)
Identify gaps in processes and procedures
Streamline area process and work flows to increase area efficiency
Carry out performance reviews and recommend advancements for operators where reasonable
Ensure all outstanding paperwork (CAPA, Deviations, Work Orders, etc.) is resolved in a timely manner
Maintain existing equipment in good repair including responding to building management system alerts. Propose/justify new equipment as needed.
Identify and Initiate and/or participate in process improvements or technological advancements that support the growth of the business.
Act as area representative for any project based implementations
Ensure adherence to Departmental SOP’s
Promote cross functional training within the team
Oversee the maintenance of department SOP’s and create new ones as needed
Provide regular documented reports measuring performance
Operate within annual budget including co-managing schedules including hours of operations, daily assignments, projects and vacation schedules.
Ensure customer shipments include proper transportation documentation and regulatory trade compliance.
Complete ongoing Employee Health & Safety (EHS) awareness training.
Complete training on job-related equipment (i.e. pallets jacks, fork trucks, order pickers, motor vehicle use). Safely, properly and efficiently operate material handling equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Key requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or Business Management
Knowledge of operating Material Handling Equipment
APCIS/ASCM certification a plus
Substantial experience in high volume distribution, preferably in the life sciences industry
ERP inventory and logistics experience
Project management experience and ability to manage multiple projects at once
Supervisory experience
Experience managing operational expenses within annual budget
Experience with international shipping and associated regulatory requirements required. Knowledge of DOT/IATA HAZMAT regulations required.
Knowledge of forklift operation required.
Proficient on Microsoft Office suite and experience with an ERP business software environment required.
Team player who can excel in a “hands on” entrepreneurial environment.
