The General Manager works collaboratively with editorial, growth marketing, and product (the quartet) to develop short- and long-term strategy and innovation for assigned sites. The General Manager effectively communicates this strategy and translates it into growth models (ROI) that helps to:


  • Establish priorities (both allocation of resources and money),

  • Develop both vertical and brand level OKRs,

  • Prioritize testing plans to ensure that site goals are achieved, and

  • Monitor progress toward both OKRs and testing plans

The General Manager should serve as a thought partner for the team to ensure that ideas/issues/opportunities identified by any member of the quartet are fully analyzed from all angles and that all variables are considered so that accurate models/analysis/decisions can be finalized and evaluated.

Key results: Team success and forward movement toward established OKRs

Responsibilities:


  • Work with vertical leadership team to develop short- and long-term strategies and growth plans that drive scale, deep consumer engagement and revenue growth. Translates strategic vision into growth models that estimate KPIs and ROI so the functional teams have information available and can allocate $ / resources to areas with highest ROI. Work with teams to develop vertical and brand level OKRs. Facilitate a framework to track learnings / experiments to ensure team stays focused on the tactics that move the needle. Monitor brand budgets.

  • Partner with vertical leadership to develop a communication framework for sharing vertical successes and updates with senior leadership, vertical team members, and organization stakeholders

  • Work with partners in consumer revenue group to develop goals/plans to grow consumer revenue

  • Work with Edit/PMM team to develop meaningful native ad products that have both high consumer interest and marketing/advertising value and the processes to support those products. Participate when needed in RFPs related to the site(s).

  • Collaborate with brand teams (print) to ensure integrated activities are addressed and prioritized

  • Other bus dev activities as well as special projects that may span Meredith Digital.

Requirements


  • BS/MBA in Finance, Marketing or Business

  • 10+ years managing online products and revenue streams for a large, successful media Web property. Proven track record of success in growing the consumer base, online product development, leadership, and innovative Web solutions required.

  • Hands on experience with consumer growth models (building an engaged consumer base)

  • Thorough knowledge of online media landscape, web metrics and traffic driving strategies

  • Must be a highly logical thinker that can understand when complex vs. back of the napkin estimates are needed and possess the skills to build models quickly and comfortably

  • Possess leadership skills that earn respect/credibility amongst the quartet and organization.

  • Collaborative and cooperative management style.

  • Highest level of personal and professional integrity.

  • Skilled and experienced negotiator with track record of complex deals.

  • Highly effective person who can inspire and motivate success in others.

  • Creative thinker with superb strategic sensibilities.

  • Comfortable within a team first vs me first environment
