Shift Manager, Scrap Inspector



Cleveland-Cliffs is the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America. The company is vertically integrated from mining through iron making, steelmaking, rolling, finishing and downstream with hot and cold stamping of steel parts and components.



The primary purpose of this position is to improve business results by providing advice and counsel to management for union-related matters, including the interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreement(s), grievance investigations, arbitration preparation and advocacy, and any other requirements for assigned area. Frequent independent judgment is essential. Cleveland-Cliffs is looking for a human resources or labor relations professional to perform work within the labor relations field.





Responsiblities:

• Responsible for managing scrap logistics to and from the mill.


• Safety of scrap management process and personnel. Including safety meetings and recording of contacts, audits, and incidents in company systems.


• Inventory management of loaded and unloaded scrap


• Tracking & Planning of loading and logistics associated with delivery of scrap including use of Tabware requisition & PO entry for monthly scrap buys.


• Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies between suppliers and plant information.


• Utilizing Switch Order system to move scrap gons to loading and unloading locations.


• Understanding steel shop daily scrap mix needs to plan which types to load next day as well as loading of outside sales.


• Daily communication of end of day scrap inventory, where located and instruction to rail personnel of scrap moves needed.


• Consumption tracking of emptied gons daily and maintain reporting of same.


• OFS entries to record sales of inventory.


• Daily supervision of bargaining unit crane operators. Instruction to crane operators to load/unload scrap into/from cars. Daily management of payroll scheduling and pay authorizations.


• Order inbound scrap trucks for the next day as appropriate for sales or internal moves.


• Daily contact with embedded contractors who support scrap management loading and unloading needs.


• Locate, verify, and inspect all inbound trucks and rail cars for scrap quality, radiation testing and conformance to standard.


• Manage & report off spec scrap. Communicate to brokers when and why scrap is rejected per specifications.


• Enter data and maintain reports of scrap receipts and consumption, car counts, inventories, rejections etc.


• Inspect and hold radioactive scrap per operating procedures.


• Weekend coverage is required (50%)


• Physically able to climb into rail cars and trucks when necessary to inspect scrap.

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from an accredited school


• 1-2 years of industrial supervisory experience


• Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Preferred Associates or equivalent degree


• 1-2 years of material management & logistics experience
