About The Position

The Manager, Safety & Health is responsible for providing safety leadership, improving safety performance, developing safety & health programs and objectives, and ensuring safety policies and procedures are aligned with Governmental safety regulations.

Key responsibilities include:


  • Manage a team of employees, including, but not limited to Safety, Industrial Hygienist, and Health professionals that ensures safety goals and objectives are aligned with the organization.

  • Proactively develop and implement strategies/training initiatives that support Ameren business line safety and health needs, providing technical consultation, coaching guidance, and change support to co-workers.

  • Serve as a leader or chairperson on task teams and committees.

  • Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risks, raise safety awareness and improve safety work practices.

  • Partner with segment leadership to define safety goals and meet compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies.

  • Provide detailed analysis of safety statistics.

  • Serve as a leader and provide support of refuels, equipment outages, or other emergencies as required.

  • Work with outside regulatory agencies such as OSHA to resolve issues of a regulatory nature.

  • Coordinate the communication of recommendations from field observations, data analysis, regulatory interactions or corrective actions.

  • Provide oversight for injury/illness, PSIF and other non-injury incident investigations and follow-up as necessary.

  • Work with Edison Electric Institute (EEI), Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), and other outside agencies, for benchmarking opportunities, best practice sharing, and lessons learned to help.

  • Develop and maintain tools to track and analyze (as appropriate) safety training related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required, preferably in Safety or a related field. CSP or CIH certification preferred. Ten or more years of safety or related experience required. Four or more years of supervisory or significant team leadership experience required. Three or more years of nuclear safety professional experience preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Ability to lead, communicate and build trust with employees of all levels. Thorough knowledge of applicable regulations and standards (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, etc.) required. Knowledge of utility standards and procedures (electric/gas) preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required. This position requires occasional overtime (evenings) for safety meetings and investigations and involves frequent local and occasional overnight travel.
