Job Description

Responsible for managing accounting and reporting staff at BCBSNC in production of accurate, quality and timely Statutory financial reporting; ensuring adherence to financial accounting controls and polices; coordinating the quarterly and annual statutory close; and coordinating general ledger maintenance and security. Will manage the preparation, analysis and/or review of the internal and external financial reports, reporting to the Department of Insurance, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, the Board of Trustees, the executive leadership team, etc. Will also stay abreast of current statutory accounting issues affecting the company to properly implement strategies to accommodate the reporting requirements of the issues identified.


  • Ensures that team members adhere to financial accounting and reporting controls and maintain a high degree of accuracy.

  • Designs, recommends, implements, maintains and monitors financial accounting and reporting processes, policies and systems. Continuously focuses on process improvements and simplification of financial accounting and reporting processes.

  • Successfully manages the implementation of change within the organization relating to financial accounting and reporting processes and systems.

  • Review and approve journal entries to ensure accuracy and adequacy.

  • Ensures financial accounting and reporting policies are clear, current, relevant and regularly communicated.

  • Ensures assigned account reconciliations are completed in accordance with policy.

  • Manage work of offshore vendor.

  • Manages external financial audits and NCDOI financial examinations.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with the NCDOI Financial Analysis Department, external auditors and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.

Hiring Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree (accounting, business, finance)

  • 8 years of experience in financial accounting and reporting role

  • With a Master's, 6 years of experience in financial accounting and reporting.

  • Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements

  • Certified Public Accountant
