FTI is currently seeking an experienced Systems Engineer SME to support the Space and Missile Systems Center Portfolio Architect Engineering (SMC/ZAE) in El Segundo, California. The candidate will have working system engineering knowledge and experience executing and assessing the adequacy of the various space systems, understanding of Systems Engineering processes/best practices and be able to manage/execute the acquisition of military and commercial space systems in accordance with DoD and SMC acquisition procedures. This position requires a Secret clearance and the candidate must be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI.


    Serve on the FTI team of Systems Engineers directly supporting all systems engineering responsibilities as identified by the SMC Portfolio Architect Engineering (ZAE) staff
  • Identify and implement strategy to apply Systems Engineering methods and tools across SMC Corps and Programs. Identify cross-cutting requirements and facilitate coordination across technical stakeholders

  • Provide subject matter expertise in Systems Engineering Processes and Process management

  • Communicate timely and effectively with Senior Government Customers on Systems Engineering (SE) Strategy and SE efforts/status

  • Provide broad subject matter expertise in a variety of SE disciplines, including but not limited to: Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), Enterprise Architecture, Digital Engineering (DE), SE Specifications & Standards (S&S), Configuration Management (CM), Agile Processes, Ops Transition and others

  • Perform technical reviews and conduct assessments, providing results to stakeholders via briefings and reports

  • Identify process issues, evaluate alternatives, develop plans, and provide technical issue resolution across SMC functional areas

  • Provide advice and guidance on methods,procedures,and requirements for the creation of SEdocumentations (i.e. Systems Engineering Plans (SEPs), etc.)

  • Assist in the development of formal feedback and summary reports to contractor team leads, Government customers, and external partners and stakeholders

  • Assist and advise programs, as needed, in the effective execution and tailoring of SE processes

  • Effectively communicate technical issues and topics to different levels of audiences

  • Leverage FTI Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) analysis methods and tools to enhance engineering processes and improve rigor of Course of Action (COA) assessments

  • Leverage FTI SBIR-developed tools to include, but not limited to, Integrated Cost as an Independent Variable (I-CAIV), Readiness Assessment Engine (RAE),NormNetPrognostic Health Management, Integrated Sensor Analysis Tool (I-SAT), and the Extensible Load-Adaptive Processing Service (ELAPSE)


  • Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance and eligible to obtain a TS/SCI

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Aerospace related technical discipline required

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Aerospace related technical discipline strongly preferred

  • 10+ years actively working as Systems Engineer (background in Space Systems preferred)

  • Previous experience at SMC is strongly preferred

  • Experience with Systems Engineering tools and space system architecture development

  • Familiarity with the DoD Architecture Framework (DODAF) and related architecture guidance

  • Experience with architecture development and requirements tracking tools such as Rational Tool Suite and DOORS

  • Experience developing and executing test and evaluation process

  • Experience structuring Course of Action (COA) assessment, facilitating performance vs cost trades and conducting business case analyses (BCA)

  • Familiarity with software configuration management processes to include source control management

  • Ability to think critically, synthesize information from multiple sources into comprehensive plans, identify technical issues, and understand higher level impacts

  • Familiarity with MS Excel and other MS Office tools to develop concise and presentable information

  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills to deliver technical documents and briefings

  • Ability to work independently with cross functional teams with minimal oversight

  • Ability to travel (~10% of time)
