The Sr. Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) will provide strategic and programmatic leadership to advance enterprise-wide DEI initiatives in-line with DEI strategy. This position partners across the organization to drive the advancement and execution of the Sarepta DEI strategy, with an emphasis on recruitment, onboarding, retention, engagement, performance management, career and leadership development, workplace practices and organizational equity.

This position reports to Sarepta's Chief Financial Officer and Head of Corporate Affairs, who also serves as executive sponsor for Sarepta's DEI efforts. The individual in this role will work closely with senior leadership, our employee resource groups (ERGs), Corporate Affairs, including internal and external communications, Human Resources, Employee Experience and the broader Sarepta community to shape and implement investments, plans and strategies aligned with company goals and in creating a welcoming environment for all. This includes facilitating and coordinating strategic planning and prioritization in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion; conducting periodic company-wide surveys assessing inclusion; and working collaboratively to develop and implement strategies and initiatives that advance a climate of diversity, equity and inclusion and support the Company's mission, vision and goals. This role is based in Cambridge, MA, but remote candidates who are willing to travel will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities


  • Leads development of enterprise-wide DEI strategy, oversees execution of programming, and development of metrics


  • Collaborates with senior leaders to integrate diversity best practices into employment and workplace practices in order to attract and retain a highly talented, diverse workforce.


  • Drives talent identification, engagement, development, and retention strategies supporting historically underrepresented groups


  • Engages appropriate stakeholders, develops, implements, operationalizes and measures the strategic diversity, equity and inclusion plan, vision and related goals.


  • Partners with the ERGs to spearhead the development and growth of the groups and their sponsors to ensure lasting business and social impact


  • Coordinates a wide variety of meaningful programming at the leadership and organization level addressing all dimensions of diversity, equity and inclusion


  • Develops and executes employee developmental programs in areas such as cultural competencies and cultivating and retaining future leaders from diverse backgrounds


  • In partnership with ERGs, facilitates group discussions in response to current events related to diversity, racial and social justice


  • Establishes effective modes of communication about ongoing diversity, equity and inclusion


  • Partners with Employee Experience and Corporate Affairs to create and implement communication strategies, experiences and content management for training, web resources, and social media to support DEI-related initiatives


  • Collects, analyzes, monitors and disseminates organizational data to benchmark and promote accountability for diversity and inclusion at Sarepta


  • Develops measurement framework to assess the effectiveness of corporate diversity initiatives


Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate will be an innovative, strategic and results-oriented leader with a broad vision for the role of diversity in achieving institutional excellence - and importantly fostering a culture where every member of our Sarepta community feels welcomed, supported and included. The candidate must be adept at facilitating difficult discussions, shepherding change, creating and strengthening partnerships, and aligning an array of efforts across the organization. In addition, the successful candidate must have:


  • A bachelor's degree, with an advanced degree or significant relevant work experience in the field of business, leadership development, or organization development preferred


  • 10+ Years of experience supporting DEI programs and initiatives


  • Demonstrated success as a collaborator and relationship builder with cross-functional groups across an organization, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build coalitions and collaborative working relationships with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups, including senior executives, to achieve results


  • Experience managing change with an understanding of the contexts, cultures and politics within institutions that impact the implementation of effective diversity change efforts


  • Demonstrated success in partnering with employee resource groups supporting work to advance learning, diversity, inclusion, and partnering to address social and current events


  • Experience designing, developing, and leading the execution of measurable and scalable diversity and inclusion programs, solutions, and initiatives


  • Experience converting passion to action with an understanding of how to influence organizational and systemic change


  • Knowledge of anti-racist, diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and experience using them to build capacity and impact through education, activism, engagement, mediation, and conflict resolution/prevention in the workplace


  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and agility and ability to build trust, credibility and navigate a complex landscape


  • Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing best practices of diversity, equity and inclusion by analyzing and presenting talent demographics, monitoring data trends, and developing diversity initiatives


  • Proven analytical skills and ability to translate metrics, report metrics/changing trends to ERGs on a regular basis, research and trends into strategy and provide oversight for assessments related to climate, diversity, equity and inclusion


  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively to develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies focused on building and retaining a diverse workforce


  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with experience in multiple communication modes


  • Prior experience partnering with procurement to develop a supplier diversity vendor program
