Job Description:

National Instruments is seeking an IP & Corporate Paralegal to become a member of the Global Legal Team. The candidate will report to the Senior Intellectual Property Counsel providing specific support to the Intellectual Property practice, as well as general support for the Corporate Legal Team. This is a critical role that requires a trustworthy candidate that is a self-starter with a strong work ethic, exceptional attention to detail, initiative, and ability to use independent judgment. A background in IP practice and/or litigation is preferred, but not required.

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:

Intellectual Property practice:

  • Assist attorney with the preparation, review, modification and maintenance of domestic and foreign trademark applications and registrations

  • Maintain the internal patent, trademark and general IP databases

  • Actively assist and support attorney with IP litigation matters

  • Interface with outside patent and trademark counsel on various IP matters

  • Review and prepare copyright permission requests for IP counsel

  • Organize, track and record patent-related inventor payouts

  • Prepare expense reports, process invoices, prepare accruals, maintain calendar and process travel for IP counsel
  • General Corporate practice:

  • Support and assist Corporate Team attorneys on a variety of substantive and administrative matters

  • Provide project management assistance on various Legal Department initiatives

  • Manage approval and signature processes for execution of legal documents

  • Provide paralegal assistance on corporate matters such as merger and acquisitions, corporate formalities, etc.

  • Organize, track and file documents using electronic tools/databases

  • Knowledge management support

  • Other duties as assigned
  • Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Paralegal certification is preferred, but not required.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years experience as paralegal with law firm or corporate legal department required.

  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office software, Adobe Acrobat, etc.

  • Demonstrated abilities to work both independently and as part of a team, and to interact ethically and professionally with executives, attorneys, customers, vendors, and other business associates.

  • Ability to multi-task and efficiently prioritize and manage workflow to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
