About the Team

The Wholesale Payments Field Intelligence team is responsible for delivering comprehensive insights to our sales and product teams by creating applications and data products that leverage the significant assets of the firm. Our programs focus on commercializing end-user tools and data algorithms to uncover new prospects, deliver product and prospect recommendations, improve relationship management and quantify the value of our solutions to both Prospects and Clients.

About the Position

The Field Intelligence team is seeking a highly proficient Data Scientist to help create sustainable data products to be broadly leveraged by the JP Morgan Wholesale banking and sales teams. The successful candidate will be comfortable translating complex business requirements into Machine Learning solutions, leading the Data Exploration process leveraging advanced statistical methods and developing insightful visualizations for data-storytelling. The Commercial and Wholesale Banks have invested in a multi-year journey to aggregate reference data, product data and third-party data into a centralized and scalable environment. You will partner with our AI/ML, Data Engineering and Product teams to create sustainable data products focused on actionable product algorithms and alerts to support the front line.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Extract and sample data, conduct data integrity checks and applicable data pre-processing such as treatment of missing values and outliers.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis for preliminary data insights to drive the selection of modeling approach that best addresses the business problem.
  • Lead the feature engineering process to create/derive model predictors with strong predictive power, trains/tunes classification/regression models by applying supervised learning techniques such as generalized linear models, tree-based models, and neural net models.
  • Interface with business leads, transformation program teams and functional stakeholders throughout the organization to prioritize data use cases and their application to improve business outcomes.
  • Synthesize, evaluate and address business needs vis-à-vis existing data solutions in production.
  • Identify, prioritize and frame/scope data use cases. Manage requirements with high tolerance for ambiguity, strong problem-solving abilities, and excellent client engagement skills.
  • Story-tell and deliver data insights, business value and recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Skills and Experience:


  • Quantitative background - Advanced Degree in analytical field (e.g. finance, statistics, engineering, mathematics, computer science). 5+ year's relevant experience. Expertise in data mining, quantitative research techniques, theories, principles, and practices. Understanding of statistics, optimization and machine learning methodologies.
  • Deep experience across the full range of database and business intelligence tools especially SQL on Hadoop (Hive, Impala, Spark), Python/R and ability for rapid prototyping in Tableau; publishing and presenting information in an engaging way. Understanding of algorithms and software engineering fundamentals.
  • Analytical thought leader - Define the analytical agenda for projects, frame ambiguous business questions into analytical plans (e.g., assess data needs, source files, prepare data, create new features, evaluate quality, etc.), and execute.
  • Cognitive and Communications Skill - Highly articulate, built upon an underlying fundamental clarity of thought. General ability to root out fundamental issues, bring order from chaos, synthesize elegant insights, and drive to clear decisions.
  • Leadership - Primary focus of building something of significance. Willingness to roll up sleeves and do whatever it takes.
