JP Morgan Chase - Commercial Bank (CB):

CB provides a full range of services including lending, treasury services, investment banking, commercial card and asset management products to meet its clients' domestic and international financial needs. CB's 1,800 bankers serve approximately 18,000 clients nationally, including corporations, municipalities, financial institutions and not-for-profit entities, with annual revenue generally ranging from $20 million to $2 billion, and nearly 36,000 real estate clients, owners and investors. CB is the third largest commercial bank in the U.S., with over $200 billion in loans and $180 billion in deposits. In 2017, CB generated revenue and earnings of $8.6 billion and $3.5 billion, respectively. CB is composed of three LOBs - Middle Market Banking & Specialized Industries (MMBSI: non-real estate clients with revenue of $20 MM - $500 MM), Corporate Client Banking & Specialized Industries (CCBSI: non-real estate clients with revenue of $500 MM - ~$2.5 BN), and Commercial Real Estate (CRE: real estate clients).

Team Description:

The CCBSI Business Transformation Team takes a client-centered approach to reimagining commercial banking through digital transformation and strategic initiatives, reporting directly to the CEO of CCBSI. The team sits at the intersection of our clients, ongoing Bank initiatives, and Fintechs, serving as a strategic partner to both the Commercial Bank (CB) and the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) by re-designing the end-to-end customer experience, steering high-profile initiatives, user experience design, and client segmentation strategy. Our team is a diverse mix of talented individuals from JP Morgan Chase and several top-tier consulting firms, including McKinsey, Oliver Wyman, and Deloitte.

Overview of Role:

The Corporate Client Banking & Specialized Industries (CCBSI) Business Transformation Team Associate position reports into the MD of CCBSI Business Transformation within JP Morgan Chase's Commercial Bank. This highly visible role drives the remit of the transformation team by putting the client first to develop best-in-class client solutions and experiences. This individual will be responsible for designing the future client and internal experience (incl. operating model) and developing the product and capability road map in collaboration with a diverse set of stakeholders across the bank. We are looking for candidates who either have a strong problem-solving skillset with experience in strategy development / execution and an interest in developing a digital skillset or those with a digital transformation background and an interest in developing a strategy skillset.

The role requires a strategic, highly analytical, impact focused, and innovative individual who has a passion for change, strives to deliver impact for our clients, and can build strong relationships with partners and stakeholders. Additionally, given the high-profile nature of the team's work, the ideal candidate would enjoy working in a fast-paced, yet sustainable, environment, have prior experience developing materials for senior leadership, and possess exceptional drive and energy.

Functions and Responsibilities:

Thought Leadership and Problem Solving


  • Planning and conducting research with clients and employees via in-depth interviews, facilitated working sessions, design workshops, focus groups, and surveys
  • Structuring and performing both data driven and qualitative analyses to identify and shape strategic / transformational opportunities and recommendations; often in collaboration with senior stakeholders
  • Researching and applying an understanding of innovation in financial services and emerging technologies (e.g., machine learning, blockchain, robotics process automation) to reimagine the future of commercial banking
  • Collaborating with design teams and SMEs to use a design-thinking methodology to co-create the target state client and internal commercial banking experience (incl. op. model, capabilities, business architecture, etc.); responsible for translating design into discrete and well scoped initiatives with robust business cases and KPIs to track impact

Stakeholder Management

  • Developing strong trusted advisor / partner relationships with key client and internal stakeholders
  • Driving change, consensus, and alignment on the target state vision and roadmap across a diverse set of stakeholders and senior leaders
  • Preparing decks and design materials to share with clients, team leadership, senior management, and executive leadership (incl. the CEO of CB and JP Morgan Chase's Operating Committee); including presentations, executive summaries, proof-of-concept (POC) / minimal-viable-product (MVP) demonstrations, and KPI progress updates

Leadership

  • Spearheading one or more work streams, with support from senior team members, including: owning deliverables "end-to-end", creating work plans, and managing deadlines and expectations
  • Potential opportunity to oversee analyst(s) and help develop junior team members (e.g., mentorship)
  • Being an active team-player in developing the team (e.g., recruiting), fostering a collaborative and supportive culture, and bringing positivity and a sense of fun to the office

Qualifications

For Those with a Strategy Background


  • 2-4 years of experience at a top-tier management / strategy consulting firm or in an internal corporate strategy / transformation function, with proven analytical skills. Experience in financial services is preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience and proven success with operating model design and / or business strategy with a strong interest in design thinking, digital transformation, and tech innovation
  • Bachelor's degree from top-tier program required; MBA or related Master's Degree is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with multiple teams, coordinating across different cross-functional initiatives, and reaching consensus with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; including strong PowerPoint and Excel skills with experience developing materials for executive leadership strongly preferred

For Those with a Digital Background

  • 2-4 years of experience at a top-tier digital consulting or tech firm. Experience in financial services is preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience and proven success with digital transformation implementations (journey design, prototyping to scale), and tech innovation initiatives with a strong interest in operating model design and / or business strategy
  • Understanding and knowledge of design and software development processes, with exposure to agile
  • Demonstrated experience orchestrating and influencing collaboration across multiple teams and roles (e.g., Product owners, business sponsors, subject matter experts, experience designers, testers, development teams, etc.) towards building a cohesive, customer-focused product backlog
  • Bachelor's degree from top-tier program required, ideally in Management Information Systems, Product Management, or Tech Development; MBA or related Master's Degree is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills; including strong PowerPoint skills with experience developing materials for executive leadership strongly preferred
