SUMMARY: Crowley's Rotational Development Program is designed for recent college graduates to gain experience in various functions within the Logistics department. The program lasts 18 months and consists of three rotations each lasting 6 months. Through a combination of training, job shadowing and hands-on experience, you will be responsible for duties within the Logistics function to include Warehouse & Operations, Land Transportation, and Freight Services.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

WAREHOUSE & OPERATIONS:

As a member of the warehouse and operations team, you will gain an understanding of all facets of Operations to include Warehouse, Equipment Control, Traffic and Documentation, Maintenance and Repair, and Terminal Operations. Acquires knowledge and experience of the overall Warehouse operations to include strategy, pricing and locations. Performs user acceptance testing (UAT) or acts as a trainer for the Subject Matter Experts as part of a new software integration. Collaborates with Maintenance and Repair to see how our equipment is maintained and repaired by our mechanics and prepared to meet our customer's requirements. Works closely with Terminal Operations to understand how cargo is handled as it is received, stored, and ultimately loaded on a vessel. In addition, by partnering with Equipment Control and Traffic and Documentation, you will learn how we manage our fleet of 48,000 cargo containers and chassis and be exposed to our systems for tracking cargo, customer service and meeting regulatory requirements. Upon completion, you will have a general understanding of the workings of a warehouse and a modern container terminal.

LAND TRANSPORTATION:

Responsible for coordinating and supporting customer transportation business requirements by developing and managing both carrier and customers to ensure requirements are met. Additional responsibilities include: Communicates with shippers, consignees, vendors, agents, etc. to effectively manage each shipment. Negotiates and determines appropriate pricing based on volumes, service lanes, and potential business for both carriers and customers. Works directly with new and existing carriers to obtain a pricing. Certifies pricing calculations for each client to meet the profit goals. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. Collaborates with the sales team to establish procedures and identify ways to grow business lanes. Monitor customer shipments and the quality control of carrier and performance. Develops and implements effective cost control measures, maintains records of quoted rates, monitors profitability, settles discrepancies, ensures correct billing and invoicing to customers for timely payment to carriers. Organizes documentation, clearances, shipping mode, delivery, tracking, and notifications. Maintains a contact management system similar to CRM to determine established contacts. Develops and solicits new accounts via telephone or email while generating price quotes, coordinating scheduling, entering orders, and negotiating rates with carriers.

FREIGHT SERVICES:

Responsible for defining, developing, implementing and monitoring all performance indicators which may include volume and quality metrics. Maintains and creates reports from company's databases. Participates or leads process improvement initiatives for the assigned business unit, offering recommendations while designing procedures, programs and standards to achieve strategic goals. Responsible for developing and maintaining PowerBI and Tableau Dashboard and SharePoint sites for aggregate metrics reporting scorecards to provide management with overall process performance visibility.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's or Master's degree in industrial engineering, business, transportation/logistics or a related field . Must be a recent college/university graduate.

EXPERIENCE: 0-2 years experience in the warehouse , truck dispatching import/export transportation, customer service, negotiations or process improvement. Pri or internship experience preferred.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Project management, process mapping and Lean Six Sigma proficiency is preferred. Experience in SQL query language and report building is a plus.

COMPETENCIES: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to demonstrative effective customer service skills. Ability to identify and/or document existing and new processes as well as evaluate their effectiveness, develop improvements and/or recommend changes or alternatives. Ability to gather, interpret, report, and use data and other information concerning assigned activities. Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope.

OTHER: Must have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or have the ability to obtain one within 3 months of hire.

JOB SCOPE: Position impacts a single business unit/segment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time. May require remote work as necessary.

FLSA Status: The position is Non-Exempt. May require the ability to work overtime to meet required deadlines. Must comply with all work rules, including those that pertain to safety and health.
