The Software Developer II is responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of software solutions. This position is involved in the complete software development life cycle and is responsible for ensuring that software meets CarMax® quality standards. This position is a key contributor in the software development life-cycle, performing analysis and design, development, and working to achieve project goals. The responsibilities of this position revolve around ownership of assigned programming tasks and software development projects. This includes ensuring that application development efforts consistently meet business requirements, direction, and standards and may include coordinating the tasks of others.
Software Developer II - Technology Operations, Public Cloud
We are looking for a Software Developer to contribute to the iterative evolution of the cloud platform and applications used to manage the platform (Microsoft Azure) through effective solution design, development and deployment leveraging automation whenever possible. Our team is responsible for the cloud platform. We support application teams and business teams to help ensure reliability and resiliency of their systems and of the cloud platform. Our team develops self-service capabilities to enable our internal customers to move quickly and deliver on the needs of the business by building systems that enable cloud capabilities while ensuring CarMax Enterprise standards are maintained. Our time is divided between consulting with our internal customers and continually evolving the platform and its operations using solid engineering and agile practices.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate software development experience and include an infrastructure background with automation experience all preferably in cloud technologies and they must have a strong aptitude to self-learn. The ideal candidate must demonstrate their ability to communicate clearly both written and orally, as well as strong teamwork and show courageous leadership tendencies.
What you will do - Essential Responsibilities
Partner with application teams to resolve support issues
Effectively estimate the time it will take to perform tasks
Identify tasks and impediments, appropriately and effectively escalates through the appropriate channels
Show the ability to apply best practices and design patterns with guidance from others
Able to identify minimal viable technical products that meet business requirements with support from others
Ability to engage in support situation and effectively, efficiently, and quickly drive to a successful resolution
Proven experience leveraging existing software, development of reusable components, and elimination of redundancy in designs
Help develop our self-service and automated tooling to help applications team move fast, yet provide the guardrails to ensure the quality and security of our systems
You will stay on top of industry trends and best practices to continually improve what we do, how we do it and ensure our internal customer experience is always improving
Position Requirements-What we are really looking for:
Experience in infrastructure build and deployment, including private and public cloud, networking, connectivity, storage, virtualization and access control
Demonstrable experience with Azure cloud capabilities such as storage, key vaults, virtual networking, web apps AAD, virtual machines, access management and automated deployments
Demonstrable experience with software development preferably with one or more of PowerShell, Python, C#, React
Demonstrable experience creating and managing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Team City or Azure DevOps
Demonstrable experience support Windows or Linux OS
Strong attention to detail, problem investigation and diagnostic skills
Strong sense of ownership, customer service, and integrity demonstrated through clear communication and positive action.
Passion for eliminating repetitive manual processes using automation
Self-Starter and Self-Learner, clearly show the ability to learn new technologies
This role requires hands-on work in technologies such as Azure PaaS (Functions, App Services, App Insights, Structured/Unstructured data storage, and others), .NET Core, SQL, TeamCity or Azure DevOps for CI/CD, load testing / automated testing tools, Splunk, and API management systems.
Qualifications and requirements
• At least three years of application development experience • Experience in some of the following preferred: Microsoft.NET (C#), .NET Core, and the design/creation of REST APIs • Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS preferred • Understanding of DevOps capabilities such as automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery preferred • A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or equivalent experience
