Job Summary

The Automation Technician will be based in Buffalo Grove, IL. The Automation Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and technical support of highly automated manufacturing solutions for a high-volume medical device application.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…                                                                                                                                       


  • Analyze reject, downtime, vision data and operator input to actively identify causes of yield/productivity loss

  • Perform complex/precise mechanical adjustments and troubleshoot precision mechanisms/devices to maintain optimal line performance

  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair complex systems, including precision mechanical cam driven motions, rotary & linear servos, pneumatic actuators and a wide variety of sensors/measuring devices

  • Respond to machine alarms as they occur, identify the root cause, correct as needed

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and vacuum systems and return to serviceability

  • Repair and maintain electrical controls on molding, assembly and packaging machines

  • Repair pick and place tooling, mechanical systems, and controls, calibrate and adjust pick/place points

  • Read and interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics, mechanical drawings and flow charts

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance actions on all subsystems and related components

  • Rebuild and repair critical devices and components

  • Assist automation team in validation and Measurement System Analysis of automated systems

  • Assists with customer presentations and interfaces with customers

  • Records procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or method

  • Maintain continuous system operation by adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying automation/robotic system components

  • Maintains software, documentation and equipment to the latest revision or operational specifications

Here is some of what you’ll need (required)…


  • Strong experience in preventive maintenance

  • Minimum 2-year experience working in manufacturing operations as an automation technician/ field service technician/ Equipment maintenance technician or related experience

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated understanding of mechanical systems/devices.

  • Working knowledge of electrical and control systems/devices

  • Understanding of PLCs, I/O and logic

  • Understanding of automated manufacturing principles and techniques

  • Strong awareness of safety

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics, mechanical drawings and flow charts

  • Ability to monitor the process and show an awareness of issues and demonstrate corrective actions to address those issues

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interface with customers, management, peers, and direct reports
