Purpose:

Prototype wheeled products from concept through production. Works from blueprints to create parts to very close tolerances.

Essential Duties:

• Machines and fabricates prototype parts from blueprints using lathes, mills, grinder, etc.


• Assembles parts into prototypes and assists in troubleshooting these products during development and testing.


• Supports manufacturing team through production


• Assists Engineering with design and development of new parts and products.


• Develops a close working relationship with development team and manufacturing plants.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• Excellent math skills and blueprint reading


• TIG and MIG welding skills


• Press Brake operation


• Tube Bending


• Wire Bending


• NC/ CNC programing

Experience/Educational Requirements:

• Experience with hand tools, machining and precision sheet metal fabrication


• Minimum of 7 years mechanical or machining background and Associates Degree from agricultural/tech school

Licenses or Certifications:

• Journeyman Tool & Die Maker, Machinist or Special Machine Builder

Work Environment:

• Prototype/Model Shop

Physical requirements:

• Must be able to stand for periods of time [Running machinery, working with the product being developed, outside testing of walk behind or chore products, Lawn mower, rototiller, log splitter] This could be an hour or consecutive hours depending on the task during an 8 hour shift.


• Must be able to lift 20-30 pounds


• Must be able to operate machinery or equipment using hands and feet to control, stop or actuate the pedals or levers on the vehicle or machine being used.


• Ability and willingness to travel (approx. 5% in a typical year)
