Brief Position Description:


The Senior Program Associate for English Learners will work with the Quality Teaching for English Learners team designing, conducting, and evaluating professional development; accompanying teachers in the classroom to support them as they engage in quality pedagogical practices; developing curricular materials which balance the development of disciplinary literacy and language practices; and managing projects and proposal writing.

Responsibilities:



  1. Design and facilitate Quality Teaching for English Learners professional development for teachers, professional developers, educational leaders, and teacher educators

  2. Coach teachers, provide feedback, and assist them as they understand, plan, and implement novel pedagogical practices to support English Learners and Dual Language Learners

  3. Develop curricular materials, pedagogical approaches, tools, and processes in secondary disciplinary instruction coherent with the Quality Teaching for English Learners approach (English Language Arts/English as a Second Language, Social Studies or Math/Science)

  4. Design instructional experiences with a focus on the rigorous development of conceptual, analytical, and language practices for English Learners and Dual Language Learners

  5. Provide technical assistance to LEA and SEA staff to improve systems and programs for the education of English Learners and Dual Language Learners

  6. Develop a variety of publications (articles, policy papers, improvement, and master plans for English Learner success, and practitioner tools and resources) to improve education systems, programs and instruction, and disseminate knowledge and project activities

  7. Manage professional learning, technical assistance, or development projects in the education of English Learners/Dual Language Learners (project management, budget management, staff management)

  8. Contribute to growing new work by developing client relations and partnerships, identifying and pursuing funding sources, and conceptualizing and writing competitive and sole source proposals for a variety of LEA, SEA, federal, and philanthropic funders


Qualifications:



  • Commitment to equity and excellence in the education of English Learners and Dual Language Learners.Bilingual, biliterate, multicultural competence.

  • Bachelor's degree in field such as ELA, ESL, Social Studies, Math, Science and an advanced degree in Education or a related field.

  • 7+ years' experience teaching a core subject in secondary U.S, schools to culturally and linguistically diverse students.

  • Knowledge of and/or Quality Teaching for English Learners Professional Development Certification preferred

  • Deep knowledge of theoretical stances underlying research and practice in the education of English Learners and Dual Language Learners

  • Knowledge of sociocultural theory and its implementation in the education of language minoritized students

  • Extensive experience designing and facilitating professional development to enhance content and pedagogical knowledge of teachers, with a focus on the simultaneous development of students' conceptual, analytical, and linguistic practices; and/or experience as a technical assistance provider to support LEAs and SEAs in the design and implementation of exemplary programs for English Learners /Dual Language Learners

  • Experience in providing workshops, institutes, virtual learning, and coaching programs, and making presentations to districts, school boards, teacher leaders and community groups.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to travel extensively (50% or more)

  • Experience in curricular development, writing for publication and proposal/grant conceptualization and writing.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse staff, colleagues, and clients.
