School Director at The Challenger School Foundation in Plano, Texas

Posted in Management 30+ days ago.

Type: Full-Time

Job Description:

Challenger School Foundation is currently opening campuses in the Dallas area and seeks a service-oriented business leader with early childhood education experience to be a campus Headmaster. A Headmaster serves as "head of school", providing ongoing people management, customer relationships, and operations support for their campus.

Although the position is located in the Dallas area, initial training will begin at one of our Austin campuses. During this training period, Challenger will defray the expenses of travel.

What to expect:

Challenger School Foundation is a values-based organization with every element of our work (whether applied to teachers in classrooms, or the way we interact with customers, coworkers, management, or peers) tied to principles of integrity, self-reliance, productivity, justice, rationality, and self-worth. On a day-to-day basis, a Headmaster is expected to approach each interaction with a high quality of service and professionalism, providing the best possible experience with Challenger processes and ethics in mind.

What makes us different?

Since Challenger typically attracts students and staff with a high desire to achieve, finding work-life balance between personal and professional commitments can be difficult. Supporting our employees is important to us; when we take care of our staff, it not only allows them to take care of themselves, it gives our team the ability to best support our students as well.

The way we do this is through our institution’s policies, procedures, and expectations surrounding responsibly paced time and communication-- specifically, a firm commitment to a work-life balance. Gone will be the days of late nights in the office or checking your email at all hours. The best way we help our team live out Challenger’s principle of productivity which we define as the creation of life-enhancing value, is by providing uninterrupted time after-hours to devote to the people and activities our employees love.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and proficiently present Challenger’s curriculum, philosophy, methodology, and values to students, personnel, and clientele. Keep expectations high while inspiring all staff to demand high expectations of the students.

  • Together with the Executive Region Director, recruit, evaluate, hire, orient, and develop the best available personnel who will practice the Challenger mission, values, and educational philosophy. Ensure all personnel understand and conform to performance requirements, as stated in employee handbooks and teacher manuals.

  • Manage clientele and staff. Handle issues rationally, decisively, judiciously, and expediently. In such serious cases, work closely with the Executive Region Director and, where applicable, human resources and general counsel, and follow through until all are resolved satisfactorily. Teach personnel to respond to clientele with warmth, efficiency, patience, and energy and to abide by Challenger policies and values.

  • Manage enrollment and place students according to policy. Work with Executive Region Director to determine program offerings, capacities, tuition rates, and wages, keeping the school financially profitable. Choose the programs that answer market demand but place students prudently in classes, keeping profitable teacher/pupil ratios. Oversee re-enrollment approvals, denials, and academic holds; and final approval of scholarships.

  • Run all reports applicable to students, personnel, and placement (awards, critical information, etc.).

  • Know and fulfill all requirements for acquiring and maintaining government licenses (fire, health, etc.).

  • Ensure that facilities are maintained and furnished according to standard by working closely with Facilities, Marketing, and Development Departments. Coach staff to use and organize resources prudently. Maintain emotional control and stability in all activities of this position for the safety and well-being of children, clientele, and employees.

  • Have superior negotiation skills, knowledge and ability to manage and develop personnel and students using The Challenger Way.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a manager or equivalent

  • Possess excellent presentation and speaking skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Be highly knowledgeable and skillful in marketing, financial control, and mathematics; be able to write using superior grammar and pronunciation.

  • Have experience and necessary educational background to manage preschool through lower elementary teachers and students.
