Junior Driver/Material Handler at Horizon Goodwill Industries in Hagerstown, Maryland

Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Junior Driver is primarily responsible for staging truck loads, load/unload truck, distribute truck returns to their proper locations, and assist with pickups as needed under the direction of the Fleet Operations Coordinator.  This position serves as a backup Delivery Driver.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.  Stage truck loads based on daily schedule in a safe manner.

2.  Unload and distribute truck returns from stores in proper locations in a safe manner.

3.  Reload trucks for the next delivery in a safe manner.

4.  Keep dock clean and organized.  Ensuring that items are properly disposed of in the bulk and metal dumpsters.  Keep dock area free of trash.

5.  Keep the proper flow of furniture to the stores.

6.  Assist with pickups as needed.

7.  Organize and maintain large quantity of seasonal storage items.

8.  Complete assigned pick-ups and deliveries in a safe and timely manner.

9.  When performing delivery driver duties accurately complete paperwork and turn in daily.

10. Perform truck safety inspections according to company policy and immediately report any repairs that are needed.

8.  Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1.  Must have no physical condition limiting his/her ability to left and carry load.

2.  Must be capable of lifting to seventy-five (75) pounds with assistance.

3.  Must be able to move up and down stairs/ladders without difficulty.

4.  Must be able to work on feet for extended periods of time.

5.  Ability to relate well with the public and always provide a positive image of Horizon Goodwill Industries which includes maintaining a neat appearance.

6.  Ability to learn and follow HGI’s policies and procedures, as well as attend required training.

7.  Ability to relate and understand the needs of people with disabling and disadvantaging conditions.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.  Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, possess a clean driving record, and valid driver’s license.

2.  Successful candidates must be able to successfully pass a background investigation and pre-employment drug test.

3. Applicant must possess or successfully pass a US DOT medical exam prior to employment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  1. High school diplomas or GED preferred.
